There's no comment button at the bottom. No matter I'm sneaky.

This was beautiful. Just beautiful. Aching and lovely and just so much love and friendship. I really can't find the words to describe how much I love this. Just want to let you know I will probably find myself re-reading this a zillion times. Thanks for sharing!

Due to the lack of comment button, I'll just reply to this sneaky comment : )

Because commenting I must!

This was absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous! From the beginning to the end. But especially the part where Bones describes Jim, from top to toe. And the tatoo....brilliant!

awwwww, thank you! the tattoo - a friend pointed out that they probably have really good temps in 2258 and people don't get actual oldschool tattoos any more without a really profound reason. but I think George Kirk probably qualifies.

*Beautiful*. Putting this in my favourites folder. I loved all of it, but that last part where Jim asks Bones to lie down with him, and this bit stood out in particular:

"Jim Kirk looks indestructible when he's awake. Even covered in blood, mud, slime, or some fetching pastiche of all three, when he's on his feet he is a force of nature, the blue eyes wild and bright, the stance combative. Lying in a bunk in Sickbay, it is easier to see how young he still is, lashes laying along his cheek, arms and legs gangly, something somehow unfinished-looking in the long lax length of him."

What aches, catches in fishing-line snarls in his chest

ow about I just cut the asses out of all your trousers, save us both some grief?"
He smiles at that and Bones does too

a simple GK 2233.04, there in an era that encourages a pristine canvas of skin because Jim wants them to remain

this is fabulous and wonderful and already in my memories. GAH! thank you.

why yes, i am stalking this story.

hostage in a bed with the electronic enemy whispering around

they're both men of science and reason and this has little to do with either. This does not make the phenomenon less real

he wishes he could watch a sleeping Kirk and pet, and not be justifying it in terms of pain

oh man, SO good.

ahahahahahahaha wrings hands and blushes! you like me, you really really like me! [/sallyfield]

also, re: downthread, I totally want to see if you do make "captain smartass" and "dr. grumpypants" icons.

Bonus deleted paragraph, that did not work for me in the whole thing 'cause you love me:

Jim is a terrible patient, treats Sickbay as hostile territory and is notorious for trying to negotiate an escape by threats he has no intention of carrying out and blandishments he does. McCoy has counteracted this by making it widely known that anyone who takes Jim Kirk's bribes over McCoy's orders can proceed to pack their bags and be ready to get off at the next Starbase. While McCoy's bluster and grumbles can usually be safely ignored, where patient safety is concerned and Jim's safety most especially, they have learned that Jim is to be respected but McCoy should be feared. For McCoy, this is an entirely satisfactory state of affairs.
