A/N- It's been a while since I read Journey to the West, but at the time I remember thinking, 'Damn, I wish this guy was MY king.' Monkey kicks all kinds of ass. Brushed up a little of Chinese mythology, but I'm no expert. I'm not even a student. Writing for the sake of entertainment rather than accuracy...

Pairing: Monkey/Loki I'm not sure how much this would count as Bestiality, but that's the main couple.
When the tales came from newly dead lips, Hel paid it no mind. What did it matter to her if Loki's wounding-wand took the form of a bridge in this cycle? She would see all souls in the end, regardless of station, and she would keep them. Again and again she'd seen Asgard fall and rise from its own ashes. Sometimes it is Baldur who restarts the cycle when he assumes the name of Borr. Sometimes it is Thor, who rips the souls of his kith and kin from the cauldron before their time and casts them back out, compounding insult and hurt until they bring all of the World Tree down with them. Once, it was Sif who survived, ( ... )

Hel's lips twist in a mimicry of her father's expression, and from the darkness that flickers in Thor's blue eyes he recognizes the look. Hel makes a show of flipping through the pages of her ledger, and stops, the air catching in lungs that don't need it as she takes in the page. "You may have any-other thing, Thunderer, but not that."

His face goes red. "I only wish to speak with him!" Hel thinks he might try to fight her, and that would be folly, but no. Instead, after a moment, she thinks he may cry.

"And I say that you cannot. Kings, wise men, seers of renown- all these are at your fingertips. A weapon to freeze your enemies where they stand- only ask. But not Loki. Never Loki ( ... )

Monkey is going to get a new bestie! The way that you showed how defeated Thor was after Hel told him he wouldn't be able to speak to Loki, was heart-breaking.

They'll be besties with benefits. And I think that Thor's never actually lost anyone before. He's a prince. All his friends get the best training, the best food, and best medical treatment. They aren't foot-soldiers and even if he's been in battles all his friends make it out alive.

I think loosing Loki really does crush him, even if he tries to pretend it doesn't, for the good of Asgard.

Loki isn't sure what the proper response to a woman descending from on-high should be. He's sore, his very teeth ache, and there's a gaping whole in his chest that he can feel but not see and the whole situation is rather unsettling. He knows he looks like the walking dead - by all rights he should be dead - but some part of him that taught Thor the meaning of the word will keeps him moving. It's what drives him to the small, dry, Midgardian town to look for answers and meaning. If this Old Bridge could teach Thor whatever soul-finding truth Odin deemed necessary he know then perhaps there are some clues yet to be found for the scrapped son ( ... )

It starts, as all things seem to do, with rumors. Frigga sits in her rooms, fingers moving deftly as she spins out her melancholy and frustrations, listening to the hushed gossip of her handmaidens. Gna walks in with windblown hair and offers a quick, respectful inclination of her head. Unlike the rest of Asgard, gold and gleaming, Gna wears homespun linens ripped and stained with dirt. None of the others comment, through their eyes tell a different story, when Gna takes her seat near the Queen and takes a carved wooden creature from her travel bag. It is intricately detailed, and varnished with a rich, warm honey-brown ( ... )

Gna seems like a very lovely person. The gift that Nornheim sent is definietly a work of art and captures some of Loki's nature. I wonder who could have sewn the mouths shut of the dark elves?

The Jade Court is not lacking in hospitality, and as Loki can attest to there is nothing more soothing to a battered soul than a warm bath. His own dress is taken to be laundered, blood scrubbed free and rips mended, so when he finally leaves the warm, scented waters he finds a carefully folded set of silks dyed his favored shade of green and a golden-pink cream. The cut, however, is unfamiliar and rather than risk embarrassment (though Loki is fairly certain he would have figured out the ties and the wraps on his own, given time) he permits the maidservant waiting just outside the door to enter and help him slip into the strange garments. Gold ornaments hang from her hair, glinting amusingly in the light, and her demeanor cool and professional. She sneaks the quickest of looks at Loki's eyes, and hides a smile. For a moment Loki isn't banished. He isn't alone with only angry pride to his name, brefit of name and title. For a moment he is still a Prince of Asgard on a diplomatic mission to one of the outer realms - perhaps one ( ... )

Where Asgard is built of hard stone with wide halls to expedite troop movements (and the passage of mounted riders, should there be need) the Jade Court does not suffer from the same architectural necessity. There is aged, polished wood beneath his feet and delicate vases of fine porcelain decorating the halls. Nobles and courtiers walk past -and Loki doesn't miss the way their eyes slide over the stranger in their midst, evaluating, but somehow withholding judgement- with arms full of books or yellowed scrolls instead of swords or sharp, cutting whispers ( ... )

Thor hefted his Hammer, a marvel of combined Dwarven Engineering and Æsir Magecraft, and hurled it into the Abyss. He hoped, as he tossed himself after it, that mother would forgive him for not saying goodbye.
---
The Jade Emperor had explained, in patient detail, what he wanted from Loki. He had also explained that Loki's past actions had already been judged by the court and determined to fall well within acceptable guidelines. A King, after all, is perfectly allowed to declare war on another kingdom and to keep his own subjects as safe and content as possible. Aside from that, what matters to the Jade Court more than pedigree and prestige is ability. Loki, after all, is the best at what he does and what he does, aside from magic, is manage mischief. Such an office needed to be filled, and for some time, but though the Emperor could appoint who he liked getting them to be accepted was another matter entirely ( ... )

"With the answer being, of course, a mortal man." Loki continues, his tongue curling around the words and fashioning into them the remainders of rage that he hasn't yet managed to shake. "Truthfully, I do not know if I should be insulted at being offered such a paltry challenge."

"There was no offense meant, Trickster." A man braced against a monster toad offers genially as the whispering of the crowd dies down. "But the Æsir are notorious for their tales filled with much daring do and tests of knowledge, we thought the symbolism would be the last thing on your mind. How happy to be proven wrong!"

"Yes." A sage drawls as smoke curls up from his pipe. "I, for one, would have been very disappointed if we all had to wait here while you went off on some quest searching for such a beast."

Loki would never have bothered with butterflies, but he can feel a knot of vipers coil tight in his belly. He wants to carve out his own place, and he's rapidly not caring how he does it. Loki's eyes cool as he takes in the doubters. The ( ... )

I am definitely enjoying all the appearances of the various deities. Loki being mistaken for Krishna, is just sheer awesomeness.

They don't think he's Krishna exactly, but maybe one of his many descendants... but then Krishna himself did a little womb hopping when he was being born and was an incarnation of himself... so they'll be playing it safe, ya know?

And as an incarnation of Vishnu is supposed to be there at the end of the world to slaughter the ignorant, barbarian masses...
