1. Elizabeth *is* in love with Will, which is something you fail to address in Part I-III. Although I don't find Will/Elizabeth the most, er, compelling couple ever, they are the canon couple, and you have to deal with Elizabeth's feelings for Will first, in order to make any alternate couple believable.
2. In Part II, why would Elizabeth return to Port Royal? The last thing she knew, she was a fugitive, set to be hanged. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't make much sense storywise.
I did like Part IV, however, especially the lines about marrying Beckett (like everyone else) -- "At least she’d have someone to fight with." -- and how "another William Turner would make life far too complicated for them all." Hee. I actually think Part IV would work better as a standalone story.

In Part I, I ignore Will. This is simple to do as, given the circumstances I have written about, there was no existing romantic relationship between Will and Elizabeth. There was mutual infatuation but the conditions that promoted their romance (in the film) do not exist here.
In Part II, I chose to have Elizabeth return to Port Royal. With both her father and Norrington in positions of some authority there, it would be highly unlikely that any action would have been taken against her. Both her status in the community and her gender would have played to her advantage in such a situation. Particularly in that time period, a mulititude of sins could be absolved with a few well-timed tears and claims of being led astray by a lover.
I hope this explanation will allow you to re-read the story with a more open mind in the future.

I can see her after DMC, throwing away her pirate life. Maybe the guilt from Jack's "death" and Will's increasing obession with freeing his father was too much for her. I can see her saying - I'm through, going back to Port Royal and becoming Norrington's wife. And how angsty would things have been in Will and co. went to get Elizabeth to help save Jack - only to find her married to James. Ooh - there would be hella angst there between her and Will, etc.
Sorry to write so long, but I'm a total believer in the Norribeth romance. So rock on!
