Rating: PG
Warnings: AWE spoilers, Character death
Summary: Their fates were always entwined and always would be. Norrington's POV

I apologize for any inaccuracies...

You have become a fine woman, Elizabeth
You're a fine man, James
Its a curious thing. There was once a time when I would have given anything for you to look like that while thinking about me
I had nothing to do with your father's death. But that does not absolve me of my other sins
Our fates were always entwined, Elizabeth. But never joined

Thought after thought, memory after memory raced through James Norrington's mind as he passionately kissed Elizabeth. The sweetness of her lips astounded him and his mind, body and soul felt as though they had been set alight. How glorious it was to finally share a kiss with Elizabeth. After all, James had loved her with an undying passion for years.

Finally they broke apart, the warmth and feel of Elizabeth's sweet lips still lingered on his own. Elizabeth's beautiful eyes beseeched his own, begging him to come with her. Finally, with disappointment clouding her face, Elizabeth turned away and started to climb the line back to the Empress.

A yell from above James, one of Jones's crew members, made up James's mind. He pulled out his gun and hastily shot down the line, watching as his beloved Elizabeth and her crew crashed down into the icy, navy sea.

Forgive me, Elizabeth. I'd rather guarantee your safety then try to ensure my own.

James turned back around only to feel a sharp blow and sudden pain in his stomach. His eyes widened in shock and confusion as he gazed down. He had been impaled. A deadly sharp piece of wood jutted from his stomach, his own blood lacquering the wood. A scream from below, "James!" brought tears to his eyes.

Elizabeth...

His body slumped against the side of The Flying Dutchman. His icy hands clutched at the wood embedded in his flesh. His Admiral's uniform was slowly turning a darker blue, stained by the rose-red blood streaming from his wound.

His body shook, but not from the frigid bite of the cold air. Death's cold grip chilled him to the marrow. James knew he was dying, but he didn't fight it. He didn't even fear it.

Remember that I loved you, Elizabeth.

He looked into the eyes of the crew member who had impaled him. No remorse or sympathy was to be found there. More of Jones's disfigured crew gathered around, laughing and mocking his death.

At least I guaranteed Elizabeth's safety. I would die a thousand times over if it meant saving Elizabeth

Heavy footfall and the tap of a wooden leg echoed through the still air. Davy Jones himself approached, a cold, mocking look on his gruesome face. He bent his grotesque visage down close to James's.

"James Norrington... do you fear death?" Jones's voice was ripe with taunt.

James gathered his remaining strength and gripped the handle of his sword. With a blast of energy he rammed the sword into Davy Jones's body, where his heart should have been. James's eyes registered disgust and defiance.

His body trembled and he slumped back against the side of the ship. Everything around him grew dim and a strange bright light seemed to grow brighter. He thought of Elizabeth and his body grew pleasantly warmer: The taste of her sweet lips, the feel of her porcelain skin brushing his, her soft hair...

The world turned black and James Norrington saw no more of the mortal world. But he had died a noble, sacrificial death. He had died to save the woman he loved. And Elizabeth would always remember it... always remember him. James Norrington.
