Both involve the philosopher's stone (although HP fen is long gone from that from what I remember...then again Harry Potter fen was a terrifying scaring experience)

Yeah, HP fandom is what scared me away from fanfics (with a touch of Gundam Wing) because of stuff like that. But I'm sure that's why.

see, that I can understand. but the fact that most of them lead to ed and al suddenly living at hogwarts is just fucked up. --; and a lot of the fics don't even have anything to do with the hp version of the philosopher's stone because that problem was taken care of in harry's first year, and of course, you can't write good porn for little kids without looking like a pedophile, and that is many authors' favorite part.
