Visit Sanjuusangendo (or San Juu San Gendo if you wanna anglicise it 'properly') in Kyoto. I can't remember where it is exactly, but it has an unbelievably awesome set of statues.

Also Asakusa temple in Tokyo. It has like, it's own district, and train station, so just look for that line.

And Harajuku. Despite what you hear about maid's outfits, wedding dresses and dominatrix leather gear (which is all more than completely true, btw) it actually has some unbelievably awesome normal clothes too.

What's wrong with maid outfits and dominatrix leather gear? ;P

Thanks for the hints :-)

Dude, there is nothing, and I stress nothing, wrong with maids and dominatrixes. I was just pointing out that in addition to those, there are also normal clothes, lol.

Highlight of my time there had to be this chick walking down the road in an honest to god wedding dress, complete with bouquet and elbow-length gloves. To a pot-affected mind, seeing that coming through this relatively normal street was a MASSIVE 'wtf'.

In Kyoto, you have to go to Fushimi Inari-taisha, The Fox shrine. The Tori gates literally goes on forever. I went in the rain, and it was so beautiful.

Also, have a shrine/temple day in Kyoto. I loved going to them all. I have a good luck charm from nearly every shrine I went to. Kiyomizu-dera is beautiful, and there are two stones there, and if you can walk between them in a straight line with your eyes close, you will met your true love. Then there are Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji and Ryōan-ji which are all worth a look. And get your souvenirs in Kyoto. Tokyo is nowhere near as good :P

Seconding the Harajuku motion. Takeshita dori is just amazing. And there are great shops in the area too. And random Gothic Lolita girls are always good for a look.

Tokyo is just so huge though. Didn't get to Akihabara, but Shinjuku, Shinbuya and Ginza are all great for shopping and just looking. Ginza just to see things that you could never buy in a million year.

DAMN, I need to get out more,

I'll be seeing Shinjuku and Harajuku definitely, and I think I'll have to include a shrine-viewing day :-)
