1. You might have already e-mailed your authors directly. If so, great. If not, then you're relying on them to all read your blog to get updates about their royalties.
2. If you wish to announce to the world that you personally and your company are both in such a tight financial situation that you cannot yet pay your authors, that's certainly your right. It's your company, and you have every right to run it however you please.
I am sorry, but again I am quite confused by your comment, and rather upset.
First of all, why does the act of e-mailing my authors and making a series of public posts where all my authors hang out (LJ, SFF Net newsgroups) is assumed to be mutually exclusive? Most of my authors read my posts, and yes, there is an e-mailing that is going out to make sure the one percent who may not read the public posting are informed. But people may and do overlook e-mail and the e-mail frequently ends up in spam/junk boxes, while a public post guarantees dissemination of information and supplies redundancy.
Second, it is not merely a courtesy on my part but my duty to make sure that all current authors, and potential authors (who might be looking at Norilana as a potential submission market) and the general public is kept aware of the operation of my company always, under any circumstances

By the way, my copy of Mansfield Park and Mummies just arrived Monday. I haven’t read it yet - term starts next week, so time is scarcer than usual - but I wanted to tell you that the Scholarly Appendices are indeed scholarly, and also very funny. I may be buying copies as belated Christmas presents for a couple of friends.
I purchase MPaM for my mother, and here's her comment: "I've just finished reading it, and found it more entertaining than the original. A bonus was that not only did we have it as a set book for O-level, but my school where I read it is on the cover - a little inset picture of a stately home is "Malvern Hall" by Constable, and that was the building that housed my high school. So thank you!"
Oh wow! I am completely psyched that Malvern Hall (love that painting by the way, it completely fits my imaginary conception of what Mansfield Park and its surrounding estate grounds should look like) is your mother's school building! WOW! How genuinely awesome! And of course I am thrilled she liked the actual book. :-)
Please pass on to your mother that her comment has totally made my day, in every sense possible! :-)
Thanks, Jonathan, I don't plan to do either any time soon! *grin*
The greatest irony is, right now Norilana Books is DOING BETTER THAN EVER, but my reserves of saved money (from business startup loans) have been depleted, and in one foul strike, Bank of America completely emptied me out mid-year by threatening to foreclose, and I had to give them a good-will payment of pretty much all I had, to keep the house.
It used to be, even a year ago, I needed to add a whole lot from savings each month to meet operating costs and expenses, while NOW, when I need so very little, I have NOTHING to add. I am completely dry here because all of those reserves are GONE, and it is frustrating as hell.
I am THIS CLOSE to being completely self-reliant on this publishing business to cover ALL of my needs. THIS CLOSE!

That's a strange thing for you to say.
I want the whole world to know this, so why should I send a private email?
Norilana Books has always operated in the open and I never hide anything, good or bad from the public.
