Nebula Awards Weekend 2008 - My Trip Report

So here at last is my Nebula trip report.

First of all, I had a fantastic time, a much-needed chance to get away and finally see some of you after a long absence from conventions due to the family medical and financial situations. It was good to see you. Mary said that she had a great time sitting and chatting with you Sunday in the SFWA hospitality suite-- it was probably a bit more interesting talk than the one I was having, I expect (although the main problem with the one I was having, about how to kick-start moon exploration, was not that it was inherently uninteresting, just that it's one I've had many many times before, and so nothing was really new.)

When you say I got more autographs than you and Nancy Jane, you forgot to mention that "more" was "two more." Silly woman. And I know that feeling of relief once the award was announced! I was just so glad it was over and I could try to relax and act like a normal person again.

Anyhow, it was great to finally meet you!

Somehow or another, I completely failed to meet you in person this weekend. I have no idea how, as you were on my shortlist of people I wanted to meet in person, but I expect we were both hustling and bustling in opposite directions. Congratulations on your nomination, and I hope we meet sometime soon.

The thought of being on anyone's short list boggles my mind, especially considering how the Nebula weekend seemed to be an exercise in just how many people didn't have a clue who I was, despite the fact that I was on the ballot. Anyhow, I'm sorry we missed each other! Will you be at either WisCon, Readercon, or NeFe?

Well, you are not an unknown in the blogging world, and plenty of people I hold in high regard hold you in the same way. So, the chance to meet you in person was important. Obviously, the fates thought otherwise. I will, unfortunately, not be at any more cons this year. It's my 15th wedding anniversary, and we are blowing the travel budget on a trip back to our honeymoon spot in Jamaica. I will pay closer attention to participant lists before leaving any con again.

I was so very happy to see you in Austin, Vera. It was great fun shooting pool with you.

And just for the record, Bailey made the ball jokes. I just added pockets to his references. :)

A belated thank you and glad you enjoyed the Nebula report! And yup, I know, I know, totally belated reply --I feel like I am communicating at cosmic relativistic distances sometimes, it takes me so long to reply to some posts! Bad me! :-)
