I am sure you do not remember me, but I was at your Ethical Systems panel at WorldCon SanJose in 2002. But perhaps you might remember me - the Russian/Jewish girl who talked a lot :) You know, it's been five years and the two most memorable panels I've attended at that Con were yours and L.M.Bujold's, and I keep going back and thinking about what you said about atypical speculative fiction settings... And I just wanted to say thank you! (hehe, that was a long time coming...)
Also, best of luck with Norilana press. The anthology looks great- the cover is beautiful!
It's really funny how those things work; I do not remember any of the other people from that panel, but I vividly remember our conversation in the hallway. Sometimes I think that my memory is only good for scenes - do you know what I mean, when you read a story and the way the characters feel to you stays long after you forget what they said or did?
But I have to confess that I found your website because I've just written a romantic SF story. I do not think it's good for the anthology though... :)
Belatedly replying here (swamped again, hehehe) anyway, yup, I know exactly what you mean about having a memory for scenes.
I'm exactly the same way, I remember almost none of the plot details in even my favorite books, but remember the emotional arcs and the satisfaction in character interactions long after reading them. :-)
Hey, if you have a romantic SF story, by all means send it in to the anthology WARRIOR WISEWOMAN. :-) The worst thing that can happen is the editor will say no, at which point you can either re-write or tweak it before sending elsewhere or just send it onward to the next market... It's an e-sub, so you have nothing to lose by trying.
