My God, Vera, I think it's a long way to drive to London (it takes 3 hours). What an epic trip! I hope all the animals and your mum have recovered and settled in - best of luck in your new home.

One thing we noticed was the funny looking traffic signals in New York. They look like bulky garlands -- like bulky black 80's dangly fashion earrings (I swear, I used to own some just like that), hanging off lots of ugly wire and swinging about, pointing in every which way. What's up with that? I've never seen such bizarre looking traffic signal systems in my life! I stared in abject horror, trying to figure out which traffic signal applied to me...

I am falling over laughing, I never knew they were so different! I did go to college in Iowa, and my mom drove us all over the country as a child, but I don't remember ever noticing a difference.

Congrats on getting to Vermont, with a 4-poster bed and wood furniture too!! Are there wood bookcases (besides your barrister one)?

And one of my cats is tailless too, Joseba who is in my icon. He is king of the neighborhood, and dislikes most other cats except for Sky, my little, elegant cat who has sort of a blurred and distorted tuxedo.

The NY signals are weird because they are sort of loose and on wires.

In Los Angeles they are all nicely fixed in box-like contraptions and on firm "arms" so they look more elegant in the mechanical sense, as opposed to random crazy bat-shit 80's earrings! ;-)

Bit then I guess its all a matter of habit. Never having the NY style ones before I got freaked out!:-)

And about tailless cats, i think poor Murray had his docked -- it's how he came from the shelter, and I think he may have had a tail once... Poor traumatized guy...

Sid has no tail - it had to be docked before he came to us due to an injury. It does not seem to have slowed him down at all.

I never knew that use of the work docked! Joseba showed up on my mom's block with a half-length tail that was paralyzed - he'd holed up somewhere when it was broken and it had healed curved around his butt so it picked up fecal matter when he excreted. When I adopted him my vet amputated it, so he only has a little stump. He is very cute, and super-dignified (esp with the tuxedo) - I figured he needed a patriarch or royal name. Joseba is Basque for Joseph.

I'm so glad you, your mom, and the animals made it safely to your new home. Quite the stressful adventure, and I'm glad its in your past! The new place sounds really nice.
