Title: Siren Song Author/Artist: Anonymous Prompt: Sweden, Denmark - Rough water Other characters: Mentions of Norway, Iceland, Finland Rating: PG Content notes: Vaguely suicidal thoughts Summary: The sea calls to him.
Very beautifully written. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the deck heaving and the waves calling. The fact that Denmark wasn't nearly as alone as he'd first thought was just wonderful - if only everyone who felt suicidal had someone there to call them back.
I'd never really considered Denmark in relation to the sea before, but now that I see it here, it makes plenty of sense - not only because of the longboats and travel and whatnot but also because of the struggle for dominion over the Baltic Sea that he and Sweden were locked in for ages.
The relationship he and Sweden have here is really nice - it's that sort of subtle understanding that I love to see.
(The likening the intimacy with the sea to the idea of the Sirens is a nice touch, too!)
This was fantastic. The call of the sea was perfect in Denmark, both rational enough but also a little bit too unsettling for an outside observer. Sweden's perfect in this too as the contrast, as someone who understands but stops him at the same time. All stories with these two should be like this.
