Poor Norway, his lot in life still isn't any easier. I admit that I was expecting Sweden to have found the letters he wrote to Denmark and be coming to confront him, but this was so much more poignant. Wonderfully done.

Thank you for the comment!

That would actually have been quite an interesting plot turn. :D Somehow I never thought of it myself but if I had I might have felt tempted at letting him at least glimpse the letters. XD

I liked this. Going to have to give it another read over later. These two, they're so... complicated.

This part really sticks for me, because it could describe - well - a lot of the things that happen (would have happened) with them over the years in a really nice, succinct way:

Yet, much as he hates the situation he's in he cannot find it in himself to hate Sweden for what he's done any more than he could fault a lion for biting someone who walks in front of it and slaps it on the head.

You always have such a way with words and images. :)a It's wonderful.

One of the reasons (again) why I love writing about nations is that they think very, extremely differently about things. Norway's position in this war was nothing to envy anyway, no matter what he had chosen to do he would have ended badly.

Btw I've also noticed that the further I get in history, the more mature they seem to behave - this era is still full of brats but they'll eventually grow out of it. Well, Norway seemed the most mature of them right from the start but I do detect small hints of being overtly emo at times. XD

Thank you for the comment!

Two things for this one: first again the end makes it, how it all comes together like a tapestry; second I love the bit about Finland, it's so perfect and Norway taking the servant girl is just spiteful enough without being overdone.

Thank you for the comment! Historically speaking, Finland's position has been somewhat more secure than Norway's and I feel like it would somehow show in the way they relate to each other. It also bears noticing that Finland was basically a forest with mostly illiterate and uneducated people living in small tribes here and there, the country was not wealthy by any standard. Comparing him to Norway at the time would be like putting a thrall next to a king so I figured Norway might feel surprisingly bitter about the whole situation.

Besides, he didn't used to be such a calm, peaceful country... :D
