If the CCCP was still around, I am sure that there wouldn't have been any deals with Iran to provide them with nuclear technology. The Politburo never would have been so short-sighted as to place short-term economic gains over genuine national security concerns--since Iran is a lot closer to Moscow than Washington.
Putin is pursuing policies that are detrimental to Russia's long-term interests, which he is ignoring for the sake of some short-term capital-gains.
If only the coup in August '91 had either never happened or been wholly successful, but those stupid plotters totally failed to deploy sufficient numbers of troops and just send in snipers and kill the drunkard Yeltsin.
