[John had been in the kitchen, more specifically: rooting through the refrigerator in an attempt to find lunch. That wasn't working too well for him. Something else that didn't work too well for him was trying to stand up while his head was inside the fridge. But that's exactly what he did once the screaming started, banging his head and nearly biting his tongue. But now was not the time to focus on how much that hurt!
