Four Bells: [Voice] Somewhat Unwell

Doctor McCoy?

[It's Kennedy, and he sounds awful.  It's been a couple of days since he's left his room or contacted anyone over the journals.]

Are you in the clinic at the moment? Fever and aches aren't as much to my liking as I'd first thought. If I die before I make it there, please make sure Captain Jack stays out of my things until I return.

Archie?

[she'd been wondering why she hadn't heard from him. Now she knew]

God, you sound awful. You need anything?

And have him whine about me for the rest of the afternoon? Like hell am I subjecting myself to that.

[ which, in Bones talk, translates into 'sure, you can see him' as he eyes that drink and those books. and so no one can accuse McCoy of ignoring a lady, he offers: ]

Here, I can carry those books for you.

[The aches are better, and he's not feeling as warm. So he lies back and listens, grateful to hear voices after two days alone.]

Thanks. [passing them over with a little maneuvering, she'll recover the glass before offering the doctor a hand]

I'm Jilly, by the way.

Leonard McCoy.

[ he offers the gruff greeting as he takes the books and leads her to his room. ]

[As he hears them approach, he sits up. To the doctor, it'll be clear that he is feeling much better after a sound sleep. To Jilly, he'll look like a guy with the flu who's been in bed for a couple of days.] He's a tyrant, you should know.

Well, hopefully he's a benevolent one because he's holding your books hostage, now.

[there's concern in her eyes as she looks him over, taking in his sorry state, but that smile stays in place as she holds up the glass]

I managed to keep the juice, though...so you're welcome to it, if you're up for it.

[Archie meets Bones' evil eye with a playful smile as the doctor sets the books down on the floor and leaves. Then he lies back.] I'm up for it. Which books did you bring?

Sorry if I'm slow again. RL is being evil, but I'll keep popping in tehoniongirl February 8 2011, 20:29:40 UTC
[She'll give McCoy a grateful nod before pulling over a chair to sit next to Archie's bed, setting the orange juice on the nightstand]

Some poetry. Shakespeare's "The Tempest." And another play about a boy who can never grow up.

[They'd all made her think of him, from turns of phrase, to stormy seas and pirates.

Besides, stories of Neverland seemed awfully fitting, trapped in this place.]

Should keep you busy for a few hours.

[ooc: I can stop failing. Honest]

A boy who can never grow up? [That gets a broad, amused grin as he takes the glass and weakly brings it to his lips.] Let me see.

[reaching for the book at the top of the stack, she'll retrieve "Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up" from the pile, handing it over to Archie. As far as she could tell, it was close to the original printing from 1928, with the black and white line drawings scattered throughout]

[Kennedy takes the book and opens it, leafing through the first few pages before settling on the first, his amused smile toying with his mouth.] Peter Pan. [He glances at her.] Have you read this?

I have, but it's been awhile.

[leaning forward in her chair, she'll peer at the pages as best she can from her angle] It's been awhile though.

I always loved the stories where they got to go to other worlds.

[He angles the book toward her so she can read with him. He tries not to glance at her, knowing they're in a fairly romantic position but dead certain it's not intended to be that way.] Besides the one we're in, you mean?

[it's natural, being like this. Nevermind the accent and the time differences and the worlds between them away from this place. He's just a friend... as easy a connection as the ones she had waiting back home... and it doesn't occur to her to think anything of the space between them.]

I'm pretty sure I never read about a world where they gave you wings. [well, outside of the obvious]

But I think I'd have liked that, too.

[Archie takes a moment to relax with her in this proximity. He wouldn't think anything of it if it were Horatio, after all.] Reading about it could be better than living in it. [A little hesitation, then a small smile of concession as he looks at her.] Or it's possible I could be wrong.

[He may be a pessimist by necessity, but part of him knows he wasn't born that way.]
