This is something I wrote almost 2 years ago. So it comes from my BOS. I was wondering what your thoughts on the matter are ( Read more... )

My thoughts are that it's all very nice, but I'm not really into categorising deities into neat little boxes as such. To me, that's something wiccans do (no offense intended). I don't see the relevance of it. The best way I can explain why it irks me is this: imagine if someone decided to compartmentalise you into a narrow, limited category by calling you a "mother" or "American citizen" or "UK citizen" or whatever, and ignored everything else that you're all about. Those are my thoughts. My question is, where are you from? Because I am from Australia where we don't quite have the same seasons or pattern in terms of harvesting etc. That's probably part of the reason for my reaction to it.

I'm in the US. This is based on how I see the seasons. When it's Fall here, it's Spring in Australia.

Spring in australia (or NZ where from I originate) is very different from spring in the US. It's not as simple as just 'turn the wheel upside down' like a lot of northern pagans will have people believe ( ... )

It struck me as Wiccan too, but that's mainly because I associate veneration of "one" God and "one" Goddess as Wiccan (essentially, all the hats you give them makes me assume you believe all gods are one god and all goddesses one goddess). I personally don't jive with that. Not to say that individual gods and goddesses don't have more than one role (Odin is both warrior and seeker of wisdom), but I can't name a god outside Wicca that is both Lord of the sun (Helios, Apollo, Ra), and Lord of Death (Hades, Osiris), unless you count Yahweh/Allah, and even his associations with the somewhat shaky now.

I'm a hard polytheist, so all the goddess names you probably associate as aspects of your Goddess, I believe to be individual goddesses with their own consciousness and motivations.

"unless you count Yahweh/Allah, and even his associations with the somewhat shaky now." Is supposed to say "unless you count Yahweh/Allah, and even his associations with the sun are somewhat shaky now."

I am also a Hard Polytheist. The God and Goddess i worship as part of my religion and craft are not the Wiccan God and Goddess. I mean to know the Wiccan Gods I would need to have been initiated into Wicca which I haven't been.

While this is in response to a sentence by wyndy_wytch, it is not about wyndy_wytch, since I've never met her. It's about a position that I disagree with ( ... )
