Hey! I'm not sure if this community is still active, but I am really struggling at work to stay focused, organized, and patient.  I forget things all the time and I've been accused of not listening.  My supervisor is sure I have ADHD (which is possible)...

Do you have any tips for surviving the office?

Thanks!

Headphones.

I wear headphones with an iPod touch that has a white noise app. If I listen to actual music, the music itself distracts me and often sends me off into a fantasyland. That's not good when I'm trying to write code and block out the loud saleslady's constant yammering, so I put on white noise (I like ocean waves) to drown her out and give me a constant background.

I used to draw during meetings but my boss put the kibosh on that. It's too bad too, since the drawing really helped me pay attention and made meetings much less torturous. Now I tap myself during meetings and so far the boss hasn't bitched about that.

That's all I've got for now. I haven't had any luck finding a good, reliable sherpa to lead me around the cubicles which all look alike, which makes finding someone in an unfamiliar part of the building a nightmare.

I know! I got lost for an hour yesterday, walking in the heat on a familiar street...not fun at all!

I gave my supervisor the link to "Nonverbal Learning Disabilities From 9 To 5".

It gives you a general idea of what it's like to supervise someone with NLD.

Yikes. I have some of the issues in the first few paragraphs, but I'm nowhere near as bad as they make people with NLD sound! I don't harass or stalk anyone, I'm pretty quiet most of the time.

You can let your supervisor know what does and doesn't apply to you. Nobody is going to fit 100%. I do know that I ask a LOT of questions to the point of being annoying, but I'm getting better at recognising when I'm doing this before it's too late and I've harassed someone.
