The Seven Deadly Sins of a former Pagan organization

Jan 30, 2008 21:17

A number of years ago when I was living in a small Midwestern city, I was one of a diverse group of Pagans who decided to form an organization to serve the local Pagan community. A few months ago (about two years after I'd moved from there), the organization imploded. As one of the founders, I'm sad that it ended on such bad terms. Fortunately, ( Read more... )

Thank you.

You were there more recently than I was. What are your thoughts on the disintigration of CAP?

nontacitare,

I discovered you via a Google alert. I'm sure that I'm a LiveJournal user so it's an anon post. You have such insight into the Pagan community. I admire your courage. Would you consider sharing your voice with us? Post this item and any other such thoughts at http://ourgrove.net. Find me and sign my guestbook there letting me know you dropped by.

Bright blessings,
Goddess Love (goddesslove)

Thank you for your kind words. I'm not sure that I really have that much insight or courage; I just saw what I wrote as common sense. :-)

Hm, if you think it would be useful I'd be happy to do so. I'd probably want a week to revise this into something more article-worthy, but once I do that I'll get back to you.

I'm a huge fan of # 6. I'm a big proponent of all bylaws being followed all the time, and applying to everyone equally.

I agree with the rest, too, of course, but I think that #6 can really help with a lot of the others.

I think people following the bylaws once we had them would have gone a long way in preventing the problems that popped up in the end.

The catch is that in the first year, the first (sadly not the only) coup attempt happened as the bylaws were being written, and because of disagreements over what should go in them. The question then becomes how Pagans should act before/as bylaws are written.

Good insights.

Hey, are you still planning on doing the Imbolc thing? I'm *finally* over this flu and very much wanting to get out and do things again.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Yes, I'm still planning to go to the Tinderbox Imbolc celebration tomorrow, although I probably won't show up at noon. It would be great to see you there.

Wow, I'm really glad you posted that; I kept thinking it was Sunday for some reason. Yikes, now I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it--ahh! Well, I should still be able to come later on for a while.
