In my persona's livejournal, I wrote about a timeline from The Times Complete History of the World attempting to list the 50 key dates in human history:

Since I have a paid account, it seems like the perfect opportunity for a poll.

Things I would add to the timeline:
Other (please specifiy) - The timeline is lacking significant "non-western" events.

1. Emergence of agriculture (date and location unknown, but roughly 10 000 BC) This is indoubtedly the single most influential event in our modern existence.
2. Birth of Confucious (551 BC): influential Chinese philosopher and teacher who even managed to influence the teachings and philosophy of Jesus Christ.
3. Birth/Death of the Buddah. (roughly 500 BC) Nuff sed.
4. Significant events on the African continent - these still shape the way Africans live today. Sadly I don't know enough African history to feel competent to single out the most important ones.
5. Significant events on the American continents before the arrival of colonizers. (I'm not even American, so I don't know much about this.)

The timeline does list these three as numbers 1, 8, and 10 respectively.

I agree with your comments about the Western bias in the timeline. Asia and the Middle East seem fairly well represented, but there is very little on Africa and virtually nothing the Americas, other than Cortes' conquest of South America. (The Aztec Empire was in North America ( ... )
