Umbridge High Security Office: Tuesday

Jul 24, 2012 11:50

After her hourly glance across the wall of video monitors, Bo closed her eyes, sank back in her pink leather chair, and spread her fingers out to do her real job: scanning the island for the energy that kept her alive -- the energy that humans always chose to waste on doing things they shouldn't ( Read more... )

Time to play the game of sucking up! And find out what the Pink Leather Nightmare was up to.

She's a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too... Kenzi gave Bo a perky look. "Hey there, Security Chick! How goes the law and order?"

Sigh.

"That's Security Chief to you." And the law and order went very well when no degenerates were sneaking into her office to attach vibrating motors to the underside of her chair, Miss Unpronounceable Russian Last Name. Not that Bo could prove it, but oh, she had her suspicions.

Why, why would she ever do that? ... Except maybe in a hope that Security Chick would mellow out if she had access to regular happy fun times?

"Chief! How goes the chiefing? Ooo, shiny monitors."

Don't touch those, Kenzi. And don't smile like that at the photo of Umbridge.

"Hands off, Miss Sticky Fingers. Don't smear up my screens." Bo would have given her a suspicious look, but that would require that she hadn't worn one since the moment Kenzi entered the room. "What're you trying to distract me from today?"

"Noooooothing." Well. Nothing in particular. So that might sound and look truthful, even through Kenzi's intrinsic shiftiness. "I'm just booooored. Except for the singing. Oh! Have you sung something yet? Don't you feel like singing?" Yes, Kenzi has her phone out just in case now.

"No." Lying was wrong, but it wasn't lying if you just implied that a truthful answer to one question was a truthful answer to both. "Except for the school song this morning, of course, but everyone sings that."

She'd just be turning that around, yes, she would.

"You did sing along with Hail To Our High Inquisitor after the morning announcements, right?"

"Of course! I love the bridge on that tune!" Kenzi's teeth could work in a toothpaste ad. "And of course, I sang along with her impromptu stylings during the announcements. Pooooor unfortunate souls!"

Oh hey, did you know that freaky blue eyes get even freakier when they're glowing from behind narrowed lids?

"You'd better not be making fun of your headmistress."

"Ah! What's there to make fun of? She has a lovely voice!" And if her psychosis was melodic, well then, it just went with the rest of her, didn't it? Kenzi might be looking extra-nervous now, though. Eeeeeeeep eyes!

"Chiefy, I'm wondering if you need a vacation. Do you get vacations? Breaks? Moments to go out and suck the fun out of ... people?"

"Why would I need a vacation for that? It's my job."

"Don't you do anything else?" That was genuine curiosity there, because holy wow, the mind-control thing never got less creepy to see in action.

What a silly question. "Why would I want to do anything else?"

Because you saved my life once, and I don't think you've been yourself since then. So. Freaking. Sad.

"Point to you, Chiefy. Why indeed. Why. Indeed."

Right. This was just depressing. "I'mma hit the road, but if you have an urge to share a song? Call me! Anytime, you can call me any day or night.."

"If I ever have the urge to share anything with you..." Bo frowned.

There was something, like there was always something, stopping her from making the kind of threats to this girl that she routinely made to others she suspected of not falling in line with the boss. It wasn't that she didn't remember that they'd met before she ever came here, but she'd been a different person then. Things, events, those were more or less clear, but how she'd felt, why she'd done those things... it was fuzzy. It was fuzzy because the boss had made it fuzzy, and it was fuzzy because Bo didn't want to remember what she used to be.

She shook her head to clear it of bothersome thoughts and anything that even remotely resembled the urge to share a song. "--I'll know where you are," she finished after too long a silence. "I always know." She managed to make that almost sound like a threat, at least.

"And on that thoroughly intimidating note, arrivederci, adios, auf weidersehn, dosvedonya, and don't do anything I wouldn't do."

Small chance there. Although, if Bo always knew, that begged the question: why wasn't Kenzi in Detention? Thoughts to ponder.

Kenzi left singing. "I am extraordinary..."
