A magnificent edition!
Kamenashi Kazuya's Going My Way #8

2011.08.02 Tokyo Dome
Covering one day of a live announcer!

[heading]
A magnificent two page report about Kamenashi who makes strenuous efforts in the live coverage and the season-opening ceremony! 2. August [1], we followed him while he challenged the indispensable "real condition commenting/live commenting" in a pro-baseball broadcast. Can Kamenashi really show his re-skilled announcing in real conditions!?

[text left]
It's "You learn by studying under a professional in that subject”, for approximately one hour Kamenashi receives a lecture by NTV announcer Kawamura Ryou in the waiting room at Tokyo Dome. What is the live commenting about, for that reason Kamenashi actively inquires about the necessary know-how of "speaking/phonation", "emotions", "description of a scene", and so on.
Kamenashi not only understands the words of announcer Kawamura who teaches him in easy understandable ways in the beautiful voice, but also tries to compare it to the experience of dramas, the composition of music, the colour of the suit he wears (of course it's ad lib talk without cue cards), and he tries to convey this into people’s homes, his understanding & power of expression are admirable... Announcer Kawamura praised Kamenashi highly, "Kamenashi-kun already possesses an unique mental filter. This is something that one doesn't acquires even when one practices something like speaking".

[1]
It says 12. August in the magazine here. In the heading it says 2. August which is the correct date, so I changed it here.

Title: Live commenting
Kamenashi’s pro-baseball

Today I talked a lot.

Saying that, I challenged live announcers

The basis of an announcer, I learnt a lot of things; from phonation to the points of live commenting

My voice is hoarse

Though I am a singer my throat/voice is weak

Above all, getting rid of my own habits is difficult

I will do my best

[text on bottom right]
Picturing the situation of the players, I want to build a long term relationship.

The impression when I was taught about ‘live commenting' by Kawamura-san is... "Profound~!". Live commenting is not just simply about conveying the things that happen on the field and the data of the players, it's also about conveying a lot of stories. This work took me by surprise. I was taught a lot of things, "It's practice!", right?
The habit Kawamura-san talked about "Make a channel from you eyes to your mouth and talk". I want to reach the point where I am able to do it a bit.
I also received advice from Kawamura-san about the method of data collecting at the sports ground. "At times when you are allowed to do an interview pay attention to your language", "If you don't ask questions after you have learnt the latest correct data and information, the players will talk less", "Don't ask about things that if one sees one will understand", "Understand the players’ minds on that day and consider the timing of when to talk to them", "At worst, depending on the situation of the players give up trying to get comments",... This manner of collecting data is very important to create a long-term mutual relationship of trust. Because I am also in the position where people interview me, I understand this really well. "What if it were me?", while I am always thinking about that I want to create a relationship with the players. If so, I should be able to experience more and more sentiments and stories from the play of the players and teams. And then, putting something into words is my own greatest problem/challenge. For that reason, I think it's not only about increasing the baseball knowledge, but it's also important to accumulate various experiences and to talk with a lot of people.

* The scenery as seen by Kamenashi

*in the broadcasting booth [in 放送席]
Entering the booth, putting on a mic and waiting on standby. In a moment the switch is switched. His power of concentration is amazing!

switch on [スイッチオン]

* During the lecture [レクチャー中]
While practicing vocalization with abdominal breathing. Kamenashi is steadily becoming better, midways he also does an imitation of Higashiyama-san and confirms his “good voice".

[speaking bubble]
"Kame! What are you doing! Energetically!
While doing the imitation of Higashiyama Noriyuki-san.

To Kawamura-san's splendid example Kamenashi san says "I wish Kawamura-san would do live commenting at a KAT-TUN concert".

* on the sport grounds [in グラウンド]
Kamenashi is instructed by announcer Kawamura in the know-how and secrets/main points of covering the players’ training on the sport grounds.

Shaking hands with player Ramirez who helped with the home run project!

Player Sakamoto who he became familiar with. We can often witness him [Sakamoto] watching Kamenashi's projects at the dome.

2011.08.17 Seibu Dome
The first pitch project where he battles with Seibu Lions' "Okawari-kun", player Nakamura Takeya. His face is super serious as he tells us "I must attack while putting serious consideration on the control." Then the real performance. "The entrance of the baseball special supporter, Kamenashi Kazuya!" is announced and excitement swells on the grounds! Determination/energy is surrounding Kamenashi who is standing on the mound... The third ball, Kamenashi got Okawari-kun out with a centre fly ball. His laughing face sparkled with joy.

Interview just before the game
Today’s condition is not bad. But anyways, it's hot! (*laughs*). So far I have been allowed to throw the first pitch many times, but the players are also different, I am not used to that at all. Every time the atmosphere is tense. The first throw is... planned as an "outside curve ball". Every time, I enter the bull pen and decide by my condition of that day what balls I am going to throw, it depends on the circumstances. Today, I talked with player Kishi Takayuki. Because player Nakamura is a homerun-batter, if I pitch a rather good course, the ball will be hit. My self-confidence is~. It's not that I pitch often, so what will it be. It is also like that for home runs, but pitching is also difficult, you see. When I did the opening pitch for Softbanks and Hanshin that I could get (the player) out was by chance. Today is also about muscle, I am completely in form for Dream Boys already, I lost a little weight. But anyhow, since I am going to do it, I want to have a strike out. I will do my best!

Title: Being nervous at the first pitch

Fuu~

It was hot

While I was dripping with sweat I practiced pitching

I pitched quite a lot

And then for the real performance

Well~, I was nervous

There was a strange sensation and I felt that I was overwhelmed/overawed by the other party

As one would expect, he is the home run-king

I gained knowledge.

At the first pitch he is pitching a serious game!

Focusing on behind-the-scenes Kame!

* He gives player Nakamura a KAT-TUN CD as a gift. Today, when player Nakamura stood in the batter's box the theme song DIAMOND was playing.

* While dripping with sweat he deals with an interview. Baseball youth Kamenashi is smiling brightly!

* There is also a moment when he says, "Your arms are amazing!" while comparing them with his own arms. He looks at player Nakamura's upper arms and stares with wide eyes.

There is also a homerun project!?
* "The coach watched my form. After a long time I was hitting balls again~"

quickly-bowing-his-head Kame
* Kamenashi is always polite. He shows respect for the baseball teams and baseball itself.
