Kamenashi Kazuya

Special Interview

Enjoy a “Kamenashi Kazuya” that is different from KAT-TUN

----- It is already 6 months that he appears as a regular member on the program. While handling KAT-TUN’s live concerts he appeared on a live program, and furthermore he went out to locations, these 6 months have been fairly hard?
I think it’s not that it was hard on the physical condition (physically hard), but the changing  of the switch was hard. From the morning on I am going “Go~!” as KAT-TUN, and in the evening in “Going!~” it’s sitting straight/respectfully and “Good evening” (*laughs*). Both are a ‘high’ [feelings] but it feels that the type of adrenalin is different. When it’s KAT-TUN’s Kamenashi, it’s purposefully having a defiant attitude and speaking with an affected air [showing off], but doing this in “Going!~” is an ‘out’, isn’t it? When the caster of a program has a defiant attitude, he will be dropped, right? This change was at first straining. Now I am enjoying myself, my face became one of “first of all, I am doing baseball!”.

----- Sometimes, you are filmed at the studio with both feet spread…
Really! Because I am a guy it’s a habit to have them open, but there is one more reason for it, at the place where I sit are the legs of the table. Exactly in the middle. There are times when I hold the legs of the table between my legs, so unconsciously my legs will open. It’s not my fault (*laughs*).

----- As location you set out to baseball stadiums, you do interviews with players and participate in their training. What is a location that left an impression?
All. I can’t choose one. In practice, when I stand on the actual spot, it’s a feeling that I a losing myself and then it’s over. I am rarely thinking about appearing cool.

----- Support/encouragement from baseball fans has also become a lot more?
At times when I go to collect data or go to watch baseball privately, people say “Oh~ Kamenashi-kun” in a deep voice. I have the feeling that local old men are calling out to me. I also generally return “Hi!” (*laughs*). It’s absolutely not a bad feeling/mood. I am happy. Somehow recently, it seems the impression from people who meet me the first time changed. Until now I seemed to have had a scary image, it was often said “I don’t know what I should talk about with Kamenashi-kun”, but recently I came through sites watching baseball [?] and I seem to have become a person with whom one can talk fairly easily. That image, for me it’s a little bewildering/embarrassing, but a great pleasure.

I want to convey the greatness of pro-baseball player to the viewers

----- Your impression of the pro-baseball players you meet at the baseball stadium?
Because when I am collecting data there is a practice time, it’s not the feeling of tension like in a match, everyone receives me big-heartedly. Everyone is really kind. But when the match starts, it changes completely. The aura completely open. That is the same as when it’s said that we KAT-TUN have “usually a totally different atmosphere on stage”. I think when it’s KAT-TUN “it’s always cleanly” [?].

----- In the 6 months in which you acquired pro-lessons and pro-trainings, your baseball level also rose?
I, who can’t keep up with pro-practice, am disappointed at the lack of abilities of my body. Apart from my own level, my levels with tools/equipment and as coach are certainly rising [referring to when he is working as a backstage helper] (*laughs*). In the beginning when the talk of this work came about, even though I thought professionals were amazing, I thought, “If it’s a home run, I will soon hit it”, but in reality when I tried to do it, I was astonished about the difference in the level (*laughs*). Through such a figure of me [meaning him trying to do things], I think it would be great if the greatness of the professionals is conveyed to the viewers.

----- Even so, you struck out SoftBank’s player Tamura and got Oryx’s player T-Okada out on a fast grounder.
That was by chance. It’s not that I am getting closer to being a pro. But, in regards to the season-opening match, my hating-to-lose side appeared unconsciously, and I did my best. Because I did this amazing thing, I try not to play amateur/sandlot baseball now. I struck out Tamura-san, if I hit a home run at amateur/sandlot baseball it’s unsophisticated/primitive, it’s inexcusable to Tamura-san (*laughs*). Of course, that’s a joke. I want to do it, but I can’t make time for it. I want to do an amazing match.

----- Projects you want to try to do on the show after this?
I want to create a team and play baseball. Assemble salarymen who had to give up their dreams about becoming professionals and adults who love baseball and challenge the best Japanese amateur baseball team. Train every week.

----- Will you have time to train?
Yes. I will make time. Hardball baseball [meaning not using a soft ball] would be good. To follow it with a camera in documentary style, with a tasteful/quiet narration, “On this day, for Kamenashi the KAT-TUN live concert is over and he plays catch ball alone in Tokyo dome” like this. How is it? If possible, I also want Egawa (Suguru)-san and Ueda (Shinya)-san to participate, but it’s probably impossible… (*laughs*).

In a serious match with pro-players his hating-to-lose side appears unconsciously.
