A decision by an appeals court striking down the Federal Communications Commission's indecency policy has irked commissioners, including one who called the ruling "anti-family" and is looking at an appeal and stronger policy

As much as I understand why conservatives could be upset, those tend to be the conservatives who also don't really gussy up and take responsibility for their kids either.
We simply chose not to watch TV, how hard is it for others to do likewise??
I'm not sure why many conservatives take an allowance of FREEDOM to do "X" = an endorsement of said bad thing. Just because I think hate speech shouldn't be illegal doesn't mean I'm going to start yelling slurs at minorities or think that it's okay and moral to do so.
It's up to parents to police what their children are exposed to. This is true of tv, radio and also the SCHOOLS THEY ARE ATTENDING. If anything, kids are going to be exposed to more damaging influences at school than anywhere else...
kids are going to be exposed to more damaging influences at school than anywhere else...I totally agree with this, as well. I went to a Catholic school for the first eight years of my education(Junior and Senior kindergarten and grades one through six), and there were so many things that they DIDN'T teach us in school and figured that "ignorance is bliss" is better than actually TEACHING children about certain things, but I digress. In seventh grade, I switched to public school because of what teachers and even the PRINCIPAL were saying about me and my family-my family is VERY open about stuff like sex and I can always talk to someone about it

I think because as time and bad political policy (on both sides of the political spectrum) has marched on, many times people allow those freedoms to actually endorse bad things.
One example of this (not perfect, but something I can think of off the top of my head) is the "freedom" women have in choosing what to do with their bodies. Inherently, having the freedom to abort a baby does not mean that you will abort a baby. How many millions of women have babies each year? However, it does mean that those of the moral stance that abortion is okay will, in fact, abort if they so wish to do so with a given pregnancy.
As you said in your example, you may not start yelling racial slurs at folks if it was legal, but that doesn't mean that others have a moral problem with calling somebody like me a greasy deigo. Does that make sense?
