Any CUUP (covenant of unitarian universalist pagan) members on this list? Or any unitarian universalist pagans in Canada (where there would appear to be no CUUP members). For those of you who know nothing about what I am talking about you may find www.cuups.org, http://www.cuc.ca/ and/or Read more... )

It is very individualized as far as I know. Our closest UU church is very Pagan friendly. We started a CUUPs chapter there 3 years ago. We've had members from the general congregation attend some of our rites, including the minister who attended Ostara. "Rise up and Call her name", and "Cakes for the Queen of Heaven" have been done there - Rise up is wrapping up soon right now. We have a Paganism Spirituality adult RE class during the Lifecraft hour. The minister does at least one Pagan service per year in addition to the Winter Solstice one. Since our minister is Pagan friendly (though not Pagan) it was an easier time for us.

I understand from some other churches that we are better off than a lot, but the 2 other local churches have a fairly substantial Pagan membership, also.

I'm a UU, and was introduced to the religion through the local CUUPs group. I would have to agree with others that attitudes vary from congregation to congregation. However, there are enough similarities that CUUPs was considered its own Pagan sect in the book Voices from the Pagan Census published in 2003.

Not in CUUPs, but thinking about it. UU does seem fairly close to what I'm looking for at the moment, and there's a very active CUUPs chapter near me. But WOAHOMGholyheck they're fluffy! I'm weighing what I'll get out of it socially and spiritually with the "do I really want to be with a group that doesn't quite grasp the "not all Pagans are Neo-Wiccan" concept?" question.

Yeah. I'm currently attending a UU church with a reasonable active CUUPs chapter, but...ah, the drama!

I've had contact with two UU congregations. The first was a very large suburban group that had a large CUUP . My Dianic group met at the UU but were not a part of it. However, we did do their Cakes for the Queen of Heaven program for them.

The other group is a smaller less urban group. They do not have a CUUP but have several pagan members who have taken leading roles. They have no minister and are lay lead. I have done a Sunday program for them twice. The group tends to be very socal activism oriented with little interest in personal spirital growth.

So UU is whatever a particular group makes of it. But I have always found them friendly and welcoming.

There was, apparently, at one point a CUUPs contingent here in the Cleveland area, and an attempt by the local pagans to revitalize it. I attended the first class of their "exploring Wicca" workshop and was subjected to the worst flurry of misinformed fluffiness I ever witnessed in a single room: 9 million dead in the Burning Times, here's some tools that Wiccans use for...stuff, um, come back next week.

Needless to say, I backed away slowly, smiling slightly but avoiding eye contact and not showing my teeth.

So, yes, your mileage may vary dramatically.
