I stayed in today for fear of fluffies

"I wondered how, without myself being patronizing, I could explain the exhilaration that shivers through every cell, the sense of freedom and certainty that comes without a drop of alcohol. How, instead of escaping from the 'real' world, it gives a way of experiencing its beauty and its reality more intensely, of tapping into its extraordinary ( Read more... )

So I chose my own joy.

Sounds lovely. I might have to check that one out.

There was meant to be a Beltane ritual/feast hosted by the local Wiccans, but it got canceled for some as-yet-unexplained reason. I'm kind of glad, actually. I went to a quiet park on campus, chanted, had a small ritual and then fiddled with my guitar for a little while, just enjoying the green and the wind and even the bugs. Had there not been a slug in my shoe when I got up to leave, it would have been just about perfect. ^_^

I'm not too fond of slugs myself, but being in the northwest they do remind me of home, and all Buddha's creatures gotta live. I'm sure it was a novel experience for the slug too. :)

I said a couple of prayers of thanks to various entities for the wonderful day and being alive and all that. I also celebrated by taking a sun bathe outside next to the cat, who started the idea. Sooner or later we both coaxed the dog into joining us and it was very merry and peaceful there with my book and family about.

I've got no problem with slugs, actually-- they get all over the porch rails when I'm at home, and we only have the little grey-brown kind around here so they're not too scary or anything.

I just wish I'd found the poor thing before I started walking. Didn't really need to know what color it was inside. - -;

Sounds like your cat has the right way of things. ^_^

You didn't feel the sluggy-like lump when you put on your shoe?

I'm trying to read it at the moment actually... but I'm going very slowly. I'm finding it very hard to get through, I'll admit. Funny, because a lot of Thorson's publishing books one can often zoom through. Principles was not what I expected. Anyhow, I'm going to read Hutton and Carr-Gomm, Matthews and Sutton in the meantime until I can finish it. I'm just scared of fat books and I have this personal thing not to make final judgements on anything till I've thoroughly gone through something. So my opinion of her, personally, is still up in the air, but I'll take the sentiments of hers I like and can relate to for the best, even if I apply them differently to myself.

While I agree with the sentiments expressed in your post, I'm afraid I don't like Restall Orr's books at all. For me they were too subjective and fluff-driven, no intellectual backbone behind them. But, to be fair, one could say the same for most books published under the Mind, Body, Spirit heading.

This is quite true :). Sometimes you have to dig through the fluff to find the gems, but sometimes you can have fun with the fluff too.

Heh. This so reminds me of how my parents were. They never went to church for Easter and Christmas, not wanting to deal with the crowds of people who never went any other time.

We celebrate April 30th as Inanna's Day, always on the day, even if Lili and I are the only ones who can make it. Most years, this means we can also go celebrate Beltane (I have no attachment to any particular spelling) with other neopagan friends. There were recent years where we went to as many as four Beltane celebrations in addition to our own feast day. This year, since the 30th was a Saturday, pretty much everyone scheduled their Beltane parties and rituals on the actual day, so we missed them all.

No big loss, except for not getting to inaugurate Outdoor Fucking Season1 properly like we did last year.
