Saw GotG today, and thought it was great fun. A quick jumble of random, rather disjointedly tired thoughts:

Not hugely spoilery, but anyway )

marvel, movies

Diehard Ronan/Crystal shipper right here. As far as I'm concerned, if there's no body, they're not dead. Ronan is chilling in some alternate dimension somewhere, with Carina and Red Skull, waiting to be released so he can fall in love with Crystal in a future Inhumans movie (a superhero romantic comedy would be so much fun. Make it happen, Marvel).

Michael Rooker you might know from The Walking Dead or Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Love him!

I completely forgot that most of the time there were only three physical actors on screen (Batista, Pratt, and Saldana). Rocket and Groot were SO well done.

I absolutely adore the Ronan/Crystal stuff in War of Kings. I'm wondering if Marvel actually have the rights to Crystal, though, since she was a member of the Fantastic Four for a while. I know a bunch of the key cosmic characters are tied up with the Fantastic Four rights - Galactus and the Silver Surfer for sure, probably the Skrulls, maybe Annihilus? - so I'm especially curious what kind of plotline we might get for GotG 2.

I did have a quick skim through Michael Rooker's credits but nothing stuck out as familiar (I've never seen The Walking Dead). Maybe I saw him in a bit part in something and he made a big impression.

And yeah, Rocket and Groot were amazing - I'm usually conscious that I'm watching a CGI character even when it's well done, but this time I just bought it completely.

I believe Marvel has the rights to the Inhumans. Kevin Feige has talked about making a movie about them.

Marvel does NOT have the rights to the Badoon (hence why they don't appear in GOTG; confirmed by James Gunn) and only partially has rights to the Skrulls. This is likely why they were replaced by their Ultimates counterparts, the Chitauri, in the Avengers movie. I believe the Shi'ar and the Phalanx went with the X-Men rights. Annihilus I think is tied up with the Fantastic Four rights which sucks.

Yeah, it's a shame - I would have loved to have seen some sort of movieverse take on Annihilation, but while they could have worked around some of the other stuff it's a bit of a non-starter without Annihilus himself. And Galactus is a big one to be missing as well. I can live with Marvel not having the rights to Spidey and the X-Men, but I really wish they could get the Fantastic Four back, not just because they're my faves but because they have so many other major players tied up with them. (It's an absolute crime that we'll probably never get to see a Marvel studios version of Doctor Doom.)
