Thanks! It was interesting to see how much of yourself you put into this.
Also interesting were your thoughts on writing. I too suffer from semi-colon abuse; it's been a lifelong affliction, and doesn't appear to be going anywhere. :-)
I've always loved this story. One of the things that always irked me about canon!Snape was what a flat character he was. It was a tragedy, all those hints of depth that were never borne out. This fits relatively well with the canon universe, and gives him a personality and motivations that mean something.
I think the unfortunate issue with canon Snape is that with Harry as our POV character and the plot hinging around Harry always seeing Snape as a flat character, there was never really any way for the depth to come out without breaking the storyline. (Which is why, although I'm not surprised JKR went with the inevitable and killed him off, I think it would have been much more fascinating to have him survive the final battle and leave Harry forced to deal with him in all his complexity instead of being able to accept him as heroic now that he's conveniently dead.)
Glad you found the commentary interesting! I was surprised how much I could still find to ramble about, so despite the flaws in the writing there's definitely something about this story that stuck with me. ...As has the semi-colon abuse, alas; at least I've got better at shoving them in places where they're technically grammatically correct.
Thanks for posting this! I've been missing HP fandom lately. I've started writing in LOST and they're much more split up, with not enough people in mine to make it as lively as I was hoping for.
(Translation: I posted a new story last night and only got 1 review. Snape fic back in times of yor would've been commented up and down by now. Le sigh.)
"Sev is extremely observant about other people's behaviour. Doesn't mean he would recognise flirting if it bit him on the backside.

Heh. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, having moved on from my big mainstream fandoms to Alias, where getting more than four comments is a great success, and then to Fantastic Four comics, where getting one is a delightful surprise. (And worse, no one else is writing fic either.) Curse you, my inevitably contrary fannish affections!

Hey, I still don't recognise it now. I think the main reason I fail at being a shipper is that I've never had any reason to train myself to spot that kind of subtext. Outright verbal statements of clear intent, or I got nothin'.

Heh. No, at that age especially. (Snerk.)
