“Oh, it’s... wonderful,” said Ginny, dismayed.

“What are you on about?” Draco snapped. “This is dreadful. Mother, I insist you take it back.”

Narcissa shrugged gracefully. “I’m afraid I can’t. But it will make a wonderful addition to your home. Now, I really must go...”

Before either Draco or Ginny could say another word of protest, Narcissa had Apparated out of their foyer.

“This is revenge, isn’t it?” Ginny said blankly, staring at the offending gift.

“I knew Mother wasn’t fully behind this marriage,” Draco said, “but I honestly did not think she would go this far.”

“What are we going to do with it?” Ginny said. She was afraid to prod it for fear of setting it off.

Draco suddenly grinned.

“Oh, no,” Ginny said automatically. “Whatever you’re thinking, no. It’s a horrid gift, not a weapon.”

“No reason it can’t be both!” Draco said, more chirpy than he had been since they’d opened the thing. “Leviosa.”

“Where are you taking it?”

“The guest room.”

“But you know Ron is spending the week with us!” Ginny said. She paused. “Oh. Well, then. Would you like me to get some of the twins’ ever-stick glue?”

“Of course,” Draco said, steering the gift towards the guest room.

Two nights later, Draco and Ginny were lying in their bed when a sudden shriek filled the midnight silence of the house.

“FILTHY BLOOD TRAITOR BESMIRCHING MY HOME!”

“Did Ron just say, ‘eep’?” Ginny wondered.

“STOP FLAILING ABOUT, INGRATE!”

Draco’s shoulders shook as he stuffed his face into his pillow in an attempt to maintain dignity.

“Maybe the family heirloom wasn’t such a bad gift after all.”

It was hard to tell, but Ginny thought that Draco was nodding into his pillow.
