Did you get Get Behind Me Satan? I think it's pretty good, but I don't really prefer it to their other stuff. It's better songwriting than their first two albums, but the music isn't as addictive. At least for me.
i picked it up the day it came out. i can see how he went from elefant to this. it's just kind of mellower with less guitar. i love all the marimba, too. Get Behind Me Satan's a lot more of a pop album than a rock album. the songs are a bit more complex, and the instruments sound a lot more blended together than the previous releases, for better or worse. also, it's really impressive when you realize it was written and recorded in just two weeks. i'm really interested in where he'll go from here. by the way, what's your favorite song on the CD? hearing the blue orchid single is what made me pick up elefant a couple months ago, and when i got the album little ghost quickly became my favorite song on it, and now, take take take has grown on me a lot.
Yeah, wow. Just saw you update on my friends page. I barely update. Um, yeah, White Stripes, not saying this as a knock on their creative/artistic approach (I know/appreciate what they're doing there), but as a drummer..I gotta say that Meg White fucking sucks. There's a such thing in drumming as less is more/simple..then there's something called sucking. It's not the fact that she doesn't play any "notes" (she doesn't), or she doesn't have any chops (she doesn't), or play anything metrically complex...its the fact that she plays simple stuff badly. Like, uneveness in quarter note rythms, uneveness overall. Shitty technique and quality of sound. Whatever. Doesn't mean they're not an influential or creative or artistic musical project, it just means that they're an influential, creative, artistic musical project with a shitty drummer. (sorry to bore you with technical details)
i dunno, i've heard a lot of people complain about her drumming, but i've listened to all the CDs a lot, and i haven't really heard any shitty drumming. now, i know i'm no drummer, but i would think if she was truly as bad as people say she is, i'd be able to notice it. i mean, i have some sense of rhythm. would it be too much to ask you to point out a few tracks (maybe even times in the tracks) where she's terrible?
