Re: Peter Fraser's letterI agree wholeheartedly with Peter Fraser's letter. After all, there were no fatal school fights in his day; teachers and institutions never ignored or turned a blind eye to the plight of a battered student, and thousands of people never grew up bearing the scars of a damaged childhood at the hands of a merciless system.

I think the bitching about the general lack of accountability in kids of that age is valid, even if there are plenty of specific examples of well-adjusted people. It was true of my generation to a degree as well, however not so much as it is the current crop of teens & tweens.

I believe that the problem lies with the lack of suitable punishment. The people letting their kids run wild are the people who would have reprimanded with a quick whack of the butt in years gone by, but who are unable to do so without accusations of child abuse. Since it IS possible to reprimand as a parent without resorting to violence, I have to hold the people of MY generation to account for the current crop of kids that don't accept responsibility for their own actions.

The problem with the anti-child-abuse laws is that it makes it really difficult for shitty parents to parent. Sucks to be them, but it also sucks to be around their progeny.
