You know what it's really useful for? Keeping the relatives up to date with pics of the kids and what's going on. No exaggeration, the vast majority of my families are on fb now. I have like maybe 20 or so good friends? And then all the rest is family. :-) It does keep the drama out.

Having one's family aware of every trivial thing one does is a recipe for more drama not less.

Telephone and Email do the same thing without having your data compromised, although it isn't surprising most of the population of this planet have jumped on the band wagon with both feet. People in this day and age have become lazy, fat, and apathetic; contact with family was prolific when it was desired before the inception of Facebook, their fore Facebook is only needed if one wants to be lazy, or take the "Easy" way out. Facebook is easy, that's why it's used, and with little thought to the long term consequences, or regard for genuine verbal human contact.
