Mmmmm Whole Foods prepared Foods! Thanks, this totally helped me decided what I was going to have for dinner tonight.

Regarding your smoking question:

See because I love you, I called my sister-in-law who knows all about Vitamin's and Herbs and is always trying to shove something down my throat. Anyway, She is a Registered Dietician by trade and is now working as a Massage Therapist. But she knows everything about anything when it comes to the body and a person's health.

Anyway, she said that to her knowledge there really isn't any Vitamin or Herb on the market that helps someone to quite smoking. She did recommend Acupuncture (sp). She did however say that if you quite smoking that you need to watch your diet. She is a freak but I love her advice.

Good luck to you.

You are such a sweetheart!

What I am actually looking for is something to help with the mood swings and general crankiness that comes with the cravings. Nicorette was making me crazy, so I stopped chewing it (but I kept it just in case it turns out I am worse off without it).

I'm taking B vitamins and using Rescue Remedy whenever I need it. So far so good...but it's only been a few hours, really. So we'll see.

Sepia is supposed to help with mood swings. Guess what I've been taking lately? :-D

This is just me being nosy, but do you not want your parents to know you're quitting because you are afraid of getting their hopes up or is it because they don't know you smoke?

I was going to suggest vitamin B, but I see you have already covered that one. Continued good luck to you.

Kind of both, actually. I continue under the delusion that my father doesn't know I smoke, even though he does. My mom knows, and I have told her in the past when I've made quitting attempts, and I don't want to say anything until it's certain this time.

Don't kill me, but you know what helped me quit smoking? Getting pregnant, of course that really didn’t help me with my crankiness... And off course if that is out of the question at this time, you need to find things that are going preoccupy you. No drinking because you will want a smoke, and sex is also one of those activities were you have to have a cigarette afterwards and not being able to have on will just piss you off even more…Hmmm, you like to knit and that keeps your hands and mind busy, and I really, really need a shawl.

*Runs and hides.

Good luck! :)

Man, if you had come to my store I could have showed you a plethora of things in addition to the B-vitamins and Rescue Remedy and so on. We have some homeopathics, one called "Stop It Smoking" or something like that. We also have some herbal products like the awesome Gaia Herbs Nicotine Relief (which I'd recommend unless you're on an Rx antidepressant because it does contain some St. John's Wort to boost serotonin levels). The Gaia product also contains lobelia, which is "known as Indian tobacco and has a history of use in supporting respiratory health. Lobelia contains multiple alkaloids that appear to provide some nicotine-like stimulation during smoking cessation."

As an alternative, I would recommend the herb passionflower, or maybe the amino acids GABA and/or L-Theanine if you're mostly experiencing stress/anxiety/panic/etc.

You are SO AWESOME. I soent about ten minutes extolling your virtues to my poor husband, who was like, "Um, Steph who?"

The panic attacks are really bad, so I will definitely be trying the L-Theanine (assuming I can find it). Basically, I am having massive mood swings that can turn into panic/anxiety attacks (I don't know the difference, but it's awful, whatever it is) really quickly if there is any conflict. Which there usually is, since my mood downswings usually result in picking a fight with Will.

Hahaha. You're welcome. Hi, Will!

L-Theanine is awesome; I take it every day to manage my moods. I'd highly recommend trying it because it keeps you calm but still alert (in my experience.) It's even in some of the formulas geared towards ADD.

I can't imagine it would be that hard to find--my store carries it in three brands, plus it's in many combination products. It's been popularized as "the amino acid from green tea."

But if you can't find it, you might go for GABA--most places should carry this and it tends to work quite well too, especially for panic-attack-like situations. It really mellows me out (and actually it's excellent taken with the Theanine.) My pal at work takes 750 mg a day and says it's the closest thing to Xanax she's ever tried. The only drawback that my mellowness on GABA sometimes seemed to border on sleepiness.

Ohhhh! Rescue Remedy! Why didn't I think of that? I may even still have some. I'll have to check.

And I've gone from the 21mg patch to cutting it in half so I'm down to 10 1/2mg. It says on the box not to cut it but my sister's doctor told her it was okay and it's a hell of a lot cheaper then buying the lower mg ones. Now they last twice as long.
