Song: I Know Him So Well (John Barrowman & Daniel Boys)
Genre: gen, friendship
Characters: Neal & Peter
Clips: used through 5x01
Length: 4:01
Summary: Peter wants what's best for Neal, even if that means letting him go.

Notes: Regarding the genre: I got this request (request post is here, by the way) and as you may know, I sometimes take love songs, but use them for friendship or family vids. So as always, it's intended as gen, and here's what I was trying to say with this vid: It's about Peter's fear of losing (his platonic friend *g*) Neal should he end up back in prison, or decide to go on the run again or leave New York once his sentence is up. Peter knows that even though he offered Neal a chance at a better life, there are things he can not offer Neal -- because the thrill of the con might be too strong for Neal to resist and he might eventually go back to his life of crime that he never truly left behind.
But my beta said that it also has romantic connotations, and while she said it can be interpreted either way, I thought I'd warn you in case you're sensitive to this kind of thing.

As always: Any kind of comment would make my day and you don't need to have an account to comment because anonymous comments are also enabled. pw is friendship and lyrics/ voiceovers are under the embedded vid.

[Lyrics/Voiceovers]

Lyrics:

Nothing is so good it lasts eternally

Perfect situations must go wrong

But this has never yet prevented me
Wanting far too much
For far too long

Looking back
I could have played it differently
Won a few more moments
Who can tell
But it took time to understand the man
Now at least I know
I know him well

Wasn't it good?
(Oh so good)
Wasn't he fine?
(Oh so fine)
Isn't it madness
He can't be mine?

But in the end
He needs a little bit
More than me
More security
He needs his fantasy and freedom
I know him so well

No-one in your life is with you constantly
No-one is completely on your side
And though I moved my world to be with him
Still the gap between us is too wide

Looking back
(Looking back)
I could have played it differently
(I could have played things another way)
Learned about the man
Before I fell
(I was just a little careless)
But I was ever so much younger then
(Maybe now at least I know him well)
Now at least I know
I know him well

Wasn't it good?
(Oh so good)
Wasn't he fine?
(Oh so fine)
Isn't it madness
He can't be mine?

Didn't I know?
(Didn't I know)
How it would go?
If I knew from the start
Why
Why am I falling apart?

He can't be mine

But in the end
He needs a little bit
More than me
More security
He needs his fantasy and freedom
I know him so well
It took time to understand him
I know him so well

Voiceovers:

Neal: You're an FBI agent, I'm a con man …

there're only a few ways this could have ended.

This is one of the best.

Peter: I own you for four years. You okay with that?

Neal: Yeah.

El: He'd take Neal away from you?

Neal: People don't change over night.

Peter: But they do change.

Peter: People can change.

Peter: I can't risk you going back.

Peter: We're good at this.

Neal: We are.

Neal: Feels strange when it's not on.

Like I'm missing something.

Peter: Neal should be free.

Peter: That's the Neal Caffrey I know and love.

Neal: I won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Peter: I wonder what would have happened if I'd have caught you earlier.

Neal: It wouldn't have made a difference, Peter.

Peter: Nice try.

Hughes: Forget about Neal Caffrey.

Neal: New York and I are done.

Neal: The con's a rush. It's an addiction.

Neal: So now you know.

Peter: Glad I do.

Neal: Goodbye, Peter.
