“I’m not in the mood, Elle,” Noah grumbled, not even looking up from his paperwork when his young partner sauntered into their office on the record hottest day of the year.

“It’s actually cooler outside than it is in here, how is that possible?” she asked somewhat rhetorically as she ignored his comment.

“The air conditioning units died the same day the temperature spiked, same old story,” he stated, his hand moving to his shirt and unbuttoning the third button, his tie already long since discarded.

“Then take a break and let’s run ice cubes over each other,” she smirked.

“I told you, Elle, I’m not in the mood.”

“Share a cold shower then? Think of the water we’d save. I’m sure the others would be appreciative,” she went on. Yes, she did love to push his buttons. The worst he could do was shoot her and she knew he wouldn’t. Not when it would prove that she had gotten to him.

“How about you take a cold shower by yourself? It sounds like you could use one,” he muttered.

“You’re no fun, Bennet. I’m offering you cool, taut, young, wet flesh that is just begging for your hands you’re just blowing me off. Explain to me how that’s not rude.”

“I’m married,” he replied without missing a beat.

“Yeah. Funny how that didn’t stop you a month ago back in that motel room. Moaning my name in the shower when you thought I couldn’t hear you? Come on, I’m offering you your fantasy on a silver platter. Besides, it’s so hot. Really what else is there to do?”

“Go outside. You said yourself it’s cooler out there. Just, go.” He couldn’t take it. Not today. He wouldn’t be beaten by Elle. Not a chance. Not as long as he could get her out of his office in the next five minutes at least.

“This really feels good,” she taunted as she reached for what had been her ice water on her desk, which the ice had already melted in. First she pressed the cup to her forehead, then to her neck and finally to her chest. She giggled as she felt the condensation drip and run down cleavage.

Noah was only growing angrier. Under different circumstances he would waste no time in dragging her off to the showers and pressing her hard up against the wall. But given what his life really was? He wouldn’t. It was official: He tortured no one as badly as he tortured himself. He finished unbuttoning his shirt the rest of the way and laid it over the back of his chair to dry, not even stopping to think how he had nearly completely sweated through his undershirt as he stood to physically escort Elle out of the office.

“I knew the promise of ice would convince you,” she grinned.

“No, you’re going,” he told her, putting his large hand to the small of her back as he all but shoved her out of the open door before closing it after her.

“You need to think it over, it’s okay, I’ll be around!” she called through the now locked door.

Noah groaned again as he took his seat and noticed just how obvious the bulge in his slacks was. At least if Elle had noticed she hadn’t said anything.

It was sweltering and they both needed relief. In truth not even a cold shower could help them now. Not when they needed so much more. As it was it would be up to them to handle it themselves. That was if they could get a moment alone without the threat of people barging in, phone calls demanding their attention or the inability to keep their clothes from looking more mussed than usual as they would end up struggling to right them over their sticky, slick skin.

Summer. It was officially here. And it was going to be a long one.

The End
