Room 224 - Sunday Morning

Mar 07, 2010 10:25

The lack of guns was disturbing.

It kept bothering John, and he was unable to not to poke at the issue and wiggle it around like a sore tooth.  Why was he somewhere without any guns?  Mom and Cameron not being there made a little sense.  He had a vague memory of them and Derek heading out, but - still, there should be guns.

He'd spent the day ( Read more... )

Karla knocked on the door to George's room. Please be George, she pleaded silently. Please, Darkness, just let him be George, okay?

Her Saturday had sucked a lot. She'd been menaced by a vampire and then held hostage by a crazy clown-nurse-prostitute, and she just really wanted to huddle up with someone until the insanity was over or she had her Craft back.

John looked up. What was with this room and girls coming to it? It couldn't be him. He could barely talk to ones that weren't Cameron, and - she wasn't really a girl.

"Yeah?"

Well, he looked like George, which was comforting, but then, so had Zack. Up until he had game-faced, of course. The greeting hadn't been promising, but maybe she'd caught him at a bad time.

"You okay?" Karla asked. She felt odd about baldly asking if he were George or not. "...You know me, right?"

Please say yes.

"No," he replied, instantly on guard. "Why would I know you?"

Karla sagged against the door. "Hell's fire, Mother Night, and may the Darkness be merciful," she muttered. "I must have confused you with somebody else," she said, slightly louder. "May I ask who you are? I'm Karla. Kiss kiss."

It was the most half-hearted 'kiss kiss' ever.

John nodded, still eyeing her. "John Connor. Nice to meet you. Sorry, I'm not the guy you're looking for."

"It's my fault, I probably should have guessed. I'm just trying to find my friends," Karla explained. "I'm starting to think that none of them are here."

No one had mentioned how lonely it was on the island when you were the only one sane on the island.

"Are they usually?" he asked, a little curiously. It didn't make much sense that people like him - and that Fleur - were here and weren't entirely sure why while others apparently weren't.

"Yeah," Karla said, giving 'John' a small smile. "Usually they are. We all go to school here. Sometimes, though, the island--never mind," she said, flushing a bit. "You're going to think I'm crazy."

John shrugged. "I can't point fingers about crazy," he admitted. "There was a girl here earlier, Layla. She seemed to know a lot about here. She might be able to help you."

"Layla?" Karla perked up. "Was she all 'I know stuff' about everything?"

She gave John her first real smile of the day.

He snorted, giving her a little smile back. "Yeah. She knew all sorts of crazy stuff. Figured something was up with her."

"It's a weird gift of hers," Karla said, shrugging. "Still, if she's still telling people all sorts of crazy stuff, she's probably still Layla. So that's one. Have you seen anyone else today?"

"What do you mean still?" John asked instantly, guard back up higher than ever,

Karla blinked. That was an intense reaction. "Sometimes, people get a little different around here," she said. "It's almost like they become, err, someone else? But it doesn't last long. I'm still me, though, and I was hoping to find others who hadn't changed, either."

She glanced down a bit. "I told you it sounded crazy," she mumbled.

"Yeah," he agreed more than a little sharply, mentally consigning her to the 'pretty much insane' subsection. "Sorry, I'm not some weird fever dream in your weird life."
