His computer broke down.

No wonder he can be found to be lying on his bed, staring out in space.

He was so used to spending all his free time to playing games that this sudden change was making him
restless. Usually, before turning on the computer, he first makes sure to finish all the tasks he had to do
so no one would disturb him while he plays.

He called his father awhile ago to let him know the computer needs some fixing but won’t be home until
later because of a meeting.

[Maybe this is the time I should learn origami? Ride my bike? Buy a book maybe?]

Then his eyes suddenly lit up. He remembered that his father bought a new book yesterday.

He stood up and went to his father’s study room. After seeing it, he took the book then sat on the couch
of their living room to read.

"Why don't you do your reading outside? The sun's a bit nice..?"

He lifted the see-through curtain behind him to look through the window. His mom was right. The
afternoon sun was looking good outside. He stood up, book in hand, and went out of the house.

"Kyuhyun!"

He looked back and immediately caught the folded picnic blanket his mother threw at him.

After stuffing the book and blanket under his arm, he walked his way onto their backyard. It started to
look nice ever since his mother decided to plant flowers and shrubs around it.

Picking the spot under the tree, there he spread the blanket. Then he leaned back on the tree and
looked around. It's been a while since he took a break from playing games and this was working out fine
for him.

He was enjoying the book for about 30 minutes when his ears suddenly perked.

He heard a sound. Sound of a piano being tuned.

This was the first time he heard piano sound in their neighborhood.

He looked around to know where it was coming from. Yet all he can see was the vacant lot on the left
side of their backyard and this new house on their right. After waiting for minutes, only silence remained
to surround him. He went back to reading.

And then he heard it again.

This time, someone was really playing the piano. The pages of his book remained unturned as he stared
at the grass in front of him. He was listening intently to the sound. No, make that music. He looked at
the house on their right. He remembered someone had moved in weeks ago. He haven’t got the chance
to meet them though. The only things he sees there are the black cars that goes in and out of the house
whenever he goes and come from school.

He wondered who was playing.

He didn't know the song that's being played but it was enough to get him hooked. He looked up at the
orange, afternoon sky. The music was making him very warm inside.

After the music stopped, he never touched the book again and just watched the clouds pass by. Secretly
waiting for that someone to play again.

-----

Kyuhyun was humming as he walked in the school hallway. He just came back from the teacher’s office
to get the the class’ test papers his teacher had requested.

Being the son of the school’s administrator has some perks. This is not one of them. Since all the
teachers knows him, he’s the favorite kid to be asked to do such errands.

Anyway, as he was carrying these stack of papers, when he made a left turn, someone banged into him.
His eyes widened when he saw the papers flew in different directions.

"Sorry!" some kid shouted and ran again.

"Aaaaaaaiiisssssssshh!" he tried to catch the papers that were flying all around and immediately tried to
catch them.

Then from a distance, in between the papers that were flying, he saw someone else was picking up the
papers with him.

He had never seen this boy before.

[Was there a new student around?]

After all the papers had been picked up, the new boy came to Kyuhyun.

Kyuhyun noticed this new boy has some kind of a different feel. The way he moves is so proper and
formal. Like there's something so mature and delicate about him.

The way the boy he held the papers.

The way he took each step.

The way he looked at Kyuhyun.

The boy smiled at him and placed those papers he had picked on top of Kyuhyun's.

Kyuhyun was too stunned and just looked up at him. Even if the boy had already started walking the other
way, onto the sunlit hallway with his hands was on his back, his eyes only followed.

Kyuhyun only blinked when he realized he had to say something.

"Thank you!"

The new boy slowly turned around and walked backwards. The smile he gave to Kyuhyun looked like
they shared a secret. Then he went back to his former position and moved on.

After that, Kyuhyun always seemed to see him.

Monday

Kyuhyun was eating his packed lunch with his classmates in their classroom. They were laughing at
some jokes when he unconsciously looked out through the window. It was then he noticed the new boy,
sitting at the edge of the school field, eating bread, alone.

Tuesday

One time, Kyuhyun had to go to the class of 6-b to ask the teacher to sign something for his father. He
looked around freely as the students were chatting since the teacher's attention was on him.

He was surprised to see the new boy.

The boy was the only one who’s not talking to someone and was resting his chin on his hand as he read
a book.

[He’s a hyung?]

Then the boy turned his head and saw Kyuhyun was looking at him.

Kyuhyun suddenly looked down at his shoes and wished the teacher would finish signing the papers
immediately.

Wednesday

As Kyuhyun was about to go home, he saw the new boy sitting at one of the school benches. The way
the new boy sat was so proper. Then he stood up and walked his way to the school gates. The new boy
rode the black car that arrived.

Thursday

Kyuhyun looked out through the window and saw the Seniors were having a Physical Ed class at the
school field. He looked down below and saw the new boy sitting along with the other students.

Incidentally, the soccer ball rolled near the boy. He stood up and went to get it when it continued to roll
behind him. Out of the blue, the new boy looked up at Kyuhyun's window which made Kyuhyun panic.
He immediately hid by leaning down which caused him to slip from his chair and fall on the floor.

Everybody in the classroom looked at him.

"Is there something wrong, Mr. Cho?" his teacher asked.

"I-uh..I," he looked at the ceiling and blinked.

"Nothing," he grinned.

Friday

Kyuhyun was walking home when a vehicle passed by him. The black, shiny car made a turn at the new
house beside theirs. He can’t help but stop and take a look. Before the gate closed, he saw the boy step
down from the car.

The boy met his gaze.

He seemed to recognize Kyuhyun because his facial expression softened a bit.

Kyuhyun was about to smile but the gate automatically closed and parted their worlds.

All those days, Kyuhyun didn’t saw the new boy smile, not even once.

-----

Kyuhyun peeked at his father's study room.

"Pa?"

"Yes?" His father was writing down some notes on his filebook.

Kyuhyun walked carefully then sat at the chair across his father’s table.

"Do you know who our new neighbor is?"

"Hmm... the Lee family. Why?" his father answered without looking at him.

"I think I saw a kid there."

"Yes, they have a son that's a bit older than you. I assume you've met him at school?"

"Yes,” Kyuhyun fiddled with his fingers, “ but he always seem to be alone?"

His father stopped writing and pushed back his glasses as he looked at Kyuhyun.

"Well, maybe because he's new? He doesn't have anyone to talk to?"

Kyuhyun shrugged. " I hope not?"

"If you think that way, why don't you befriend him?" his father smiled.

Kyuhyun felt the same thing.
