Nooooooo! You needn't feel like this at all. Never forget, you owe them nothing! And just the privilege of your conversation should be enough for them.
I'm afraid I can't offer any advice on how to politely decline these drinks - the last time someone offered to buy me a drink was probably around 2002, haha!
haha. I know, intellectually, that I'm not indebted to them in any way... But it's just this tinge of guilt in my heart where I guess it was super ingrained in me that if someone gives you something you're supposed to give them something in return.
I spent a short time living in Vancouver back in 1994. I can't believe how much its expanded now with tall buildings in places I used to lay on grassy ground. I hope you can find some peace there and the weather won't get you down. It was closer to the weather I enjoy so I didn't mind as much.
I'm not one of those guys who buy drinks for women, that's for sure. I'm never out to meet anyone and like to keep to myself but I still love music, all kinds of music. I don't listen to metal as much as I used to but still love the sound. I don't think I've seen much but I don't go to live shows anymore. The last louder bands I saw were DOA or Prong in Detroit years ago with another band... I forget the name of now. The Ramones in Ohio when they were all still alive. Not exactly metal though.
so far I quite like Vancouver. When I was younger I tried really hard to be a gothy, only awake at night time, love cloud coverage and rainy days type person, but it really wasn't me. I love the sun. I could totally be a cat and just sit in a windowsill all day soaking it up. So...so far in Vancouver that's what I do on the rare sunny days, lay in the sun, recharge for the next straight week of rain. :)
Yea, I don't think I've ever gone out with the intention of picking up someone or something like that. i find it kind of a strange concept--like, we're complete strangers, so...why would you want to talk to me?
I'm more goth at heart but I never dress the part. I fear the sun about as much as a vampire. lol. My bedroom is painted blood red and I have the windows blacked out. : )
I think I saw the Ramones in 1993 in Cleveland Ohio with the Smithereens who opened for them. Insane set and they hardly took a breath between songs, just go go go... so much energy.
I have often felt like that with dates, too... if you can't insist on going dutch... sometimes you can work it out to pay for every other date or something.
I've never heard of reading week. Is it just the Canadian spring break? Or do you get another spring break later?
I think it's the equivalent of spring break although a little early. We do have another break later in the semester, around easter, but it's not a full week, just a super long weekend. Some of the other students have called it Spring break though. so...I don't really know...
ooh! I like the idea of paying every other date. I'll definitely suggest it next time I'm in a longer term relationship. :)
Yeah, it can be hard, the paying for things. It is this big dumb convention that men should take care of women blah blah blah.
I am super wise and open and such, but even for me it took me a while to turn my head around to not being obligated to pay for everything.
Just try to be honest yourself, that you would prefer to pay for half or all of it or whatever. If the guy isn't willing to listen to you (unless he is really really rich), then maybe you shouldn't be hanging out with someone who won't listen to you?
Though, some people are really nice, but super adamant about it, so keep working on it I guess.
