American television lost a jewel tonight. The West Wing wasn't a common fake diamond or an old throwaway gem. It was a priceless treasure, burnished, beautiful, and rare. Aaron Sorkin unearthed it and gave it sparkle. Lesser writers will be hard-pressed to find another like it again. In an endless sea of worthless reality shows and unintelligent ( Read more... )

I knew it was the napkin. Cried as soon as Mallory handed it to CJ. I thought Allison Janey was sheer BRILLIANCE last night. I was so glad that she said her good bye in the press breifing room. That's where she'll always belong in my heart. Josh asking if it ever stopped feeling like Leo's office was enough to break my heart. John Spencer was magic. I'm so relieved the show isn't going on without him. I honestly don't think I could've watched. I was grateful for the way Leo was everywhere tonight, even if he wasn't there. Does that make sense ( ... )

Am I copping out if I just ditto everything Fitzette said? And you said? It was beautiful, overall. Though I, too, wish it had been two hours. I just don't quite feel like I got to say my proper goodbyes. Oh well. It was still a worthy episode.

And I agree, Jenn, that Leo/John was everywhere in the episode last night. And I cried when at the Jed/Charlie moment, and I lost it with the napkin and composed myself again just in time to lose it again when CJ returned to the press room. I agree that that's where she always belongs in my mind.

And now I'm actually happy that Al and I didn't keep up on the DVDs. We only own seasons 1 and 2. Now we can start collecting season 3 and up and feel like we're rediscovering the show all over again. I can't wait.

And the President pardoned Toby. He'll probably be pissed about that. For a few minutes at least. Which, to me, seems appropriate. Toby's most endearing quality was his gruffness. So, I choose my Toby icon in his honor. :)

So I'll need more than one box of tissues when I watch it? As it's not even at The Cold over here, I've had a hard time believing that it's going to be over, but now you've written all of that, and even though I don't know exactly what happens, I'm starting to accept that it will end, and that they'll never be back together. I'm so glad that Charlie's in this, because I absolutely love him and his relationship with Jed- the carving knife, etc. I was really disappointed when he sort of disappeared from the show. It sounds like everyone gets their proper farewell, though.

Thanks for posting this, it's actually made me feel better about watching the end of the show. :)
