He's always been curious about the book. It's tattered, looks to be about a million years old, and is maybe fifteen chapters long at the most judging by the thickness. But as long as they've been going out (and been broken up, and going out again and been broken up) she has been reading that book.

It doesn't have a title on the front cover -- or if it did, it has long since rubbed off by now. Or fallen off or something. Point is, it's not there anymore because the book is just so... old.

He never asks what the book is about or why it takes her so long to read it. At one point, just to double check, he asked her if she could read. And with one of those "Michael, you're nuts" looks, she responded, "Of course I can read, Michael. I'm reading right now ( ... )

"So, your mom called me early today at work. She was all like "Michael! My water broke! Come to the hospital NOOW." It was crazy, y'know? Well, you don't. You're alive for just a little bit than 24 hours. I must say you're very energetic, considering that you're a baby…" Michael remains silent for a few minutes. "I am very sorry that we need to end this conversation but I need to ask your mom something."

"Jan… Jan…" He rolls his eyes. She's sleeping like a rock "Jan, could you please wake up for a few seconds?" He is whispering to her ear.

"Wha--…? What do you want, Michael?"

"I… I can't help it by noticing that your baby is, in fact, looks a little bit like me."

Jan got up from the bed and searched for Michael's hand, looking at her newborn. "We need to talk…"
