Has this happened to you?

So, this morning, like most mornings, I get in the car and plug in my iPod. I've had it for a few years. It's a "classic" series iPod, back when they made them with sufficient storage space. Mine holds 120G and is nearly full. I've got 15,937 tracks on it. Many of those, maybe as many as half, are things I'm "hoarding" - stuff I got for free ( Read more... )

By the time you got to the point you totally lost me, but I enjoyed reading it just the same ;-)

Yeah, I guess this one was more about the journey than the destination. I guess a lot of my LJ posts are like that.

The point was "My iPod shuffle just gave me the same 12 songs in a row that it gave me last Thursday. Zowie!"

It happens to me with my classic iPod as well. I really think the "shuffle" sucks.

First time it's ever happened to me in all the years I've had it.

In fact, I don't really have any complaints about the "shuffle". It seems to favor certain songs, but I've read a couple statistical analyses that suggest that's more a matter of my perception than the numbers being off. I have a 25CD changer that has a demonstrably crappy shuffle function.

If I had an iPod or a car, something like that might happen to me. Um, I'm going to a Tuvan throat singing concert next Tuesday, does that count?

Awesome! Which Tuvan group? Alash comes to Austin from time to time, they rock my socks.

Those guys are great live.

The CDs are good, too, but the engineering leaves a bit to be desired. Too much added reverb. In particular, there's a few places where they completely stop playing and singing, and then jump back in again a beat or two later. In person, it's very dramatic, but because of the reverb on the recorded version, it doesn't really have the same impact.

A friend of a friend of mine here in Austin knows those guys and travels to Tuva from time to time. He said he'd be there for several months this summer. (Found him...)
