Drifting through the vortex was lovely and all, but it's not long before Donna starts to grow restless. She's read two books, cleaned, cooked, done laundry, phoned home, done her hair, painted her nails and now she was bored. Like any human she's never satisfied. When they're running from deadly monsters all she wants is a vacation, and when she's ( Read more... )

"What is it with you humans? No attention span," he grumbles, coming from underneath the console, his screwdriver in hand.

"Says the bloke who can't sit still for more than three seconds. What're you doing under there anyway? Last time you messed with stuff there was no hot water in my shower for three weeks."

"That wasn't me, that was her," he glares at the TARDIS console. "Mood swings, I guess?"

"Typical bloke. Something goes wrong, blame the women. You're lucky the old girl hasn't dumped you somewhere and locked the doors on you before now." She flicks one of her peanuts at him.

Donna can't help but flinch as those fingertips brush her temple. Fear dances in her eyes and she hates herself for it. She trusts him, of course she does, but she can't hide that slither of fear that he could so easily take everything from her again with a simple touch.

She sucks in a breath and mutters a quiet apology to him, forcing herself to relax.

"Relax and listen to their song. I'm not going to take anything from you," he says, gently touching her.

She relaxes, opening her mind to him to allow the connection. She lets out a gasp as the sweet song fills her mind, overwhelming her senses. Her heart skips a beat and she grabs onto the Doctor's arm to support herself.

The song relaxes him, makes him one with the Ood, but also with Donna. He's never had this kind of connection with a human being. Well, now part time lady.

He slowly brings it away, to ease her mind. "Enough for now. Let's enjoy our tea," the Doctor says, with a kiss to her temple.

"I'm not sulking, I'm drinking tea." She takes a long sip of the warm liquid to prove her point. "And you would say I'm brilliant 'cause you're my best mate and that's what best mates do."

"But I wouldn't lie about that, would I? If you were rubbish, I'd tell you," he jokes.

That earns him a smile. "Nah, you'd just chuck me out in the vortex." She finishes off her drink, still cupping the mug in her fingers to savour the warmth.

He gets stern this time. "Donna Noble, no more of that rubbish in my presence, got me?"

"WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M DOING?" Oh, she's running as fast as her feet will carry her on thick, slippery snow. It's making her legs ache and burn as she pushes herself onwards. The snow is getting ever closer though.

She is going to kill him! Dead. No regeneration.

She grabs his arm and pulls him aside into a rocky alcove just as the snow races past. Good news... they weren't buried in snow. Bad news? The entrance to the alcove is blocked by snow now.

"Oi! Enough of the yelling, more of the running, ay?" He keeps going, as he's always done.

He stops with a halt, his Time Lord reflexes overcoming the flimsy traction that his trainers have. "Blocked in! Bloody Hell..." He grumbles.

Donna leans against the rocks trying to catch her breath, chest heaving. It's a good few minutes before she has enough breath to speak, even then her voice is shaky.

"Better than being crushed under a ton of snow. I tend to like my ribs in one piece, ta."

"Yeah, agreed. But how will the Ood know where to find us? I could send a signal from my sonic," he takes it out of his pocket, holding it in the air.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, Donna knows she should get up and walk and not make the poor lad carry her. And she says so, at least, she attempts to. But all that comes out is incoherent ramblings and mutters.

"Donna! Don't you go on me now!" He runs with her to jump on the backhoe to travel back with Sigma Ood.

"I have located your TARDIS, Doctor," he says, going toward their village.

Too much talking and noise. Hard to sleep. Donna curls into him more, tucking her head under his chin, vaguely aware of the fact they're moving.

The Time Lord sees the blue box ahead. "Stop right near it. I'm sorry, but we're going to have to leave, to get Donna well," he apologizes to the Ood.

"No worries, Doctor," he nods.

The Doctor indeed takes her into the TARDIS after the machine has stopped. He rushes back to the infirmary again, to quickly undress her and get her under some blankets. The TARDIS senses that Donna is unresponsive and cold, so she turns on some heat.

"Donna...? Can you hear me?"
