Horatio, for his part, is rather lost, and longing for a cup of tea and something suitable to read, or, barring that, someone to tell him how to get back to his nice little kitchen, and coming upon Aronnax's library is truly a godsend. He smiles at once, his tired smile, and knocks on the door as he opens it.
Aronnax starts - he tends to get a little skittish when he thinks he's alone - amd turns about with a smile.
"Well - ! Well, certainly, if you'd like to. I'm just trying to get the place in some sort of order, I didn't do it when I moved everything in. Bit of a mistake, that. Would you like some tea? The water should be up in a minute.
"I should be most glad," and yes, yes, he should be. Very glad. But, of course, politeness requires that he at least explain himself a little. "I meant not to disturb you at work, but that I believ'd you might perchance be glad o' the respite and the help."
"Oh, no, not at all, never thought you'd meant any such thing."
The teakettle whistles, and Aronnax scrambles cheerfully for it, swinging it off and pouring it into into the tea pot he'd already set up. "Rose hips all right? It's all I've got at the moment."
One thing I found particularly interesting, about the book, The Mysterious Island, was that, when Nemo died at the end he gave the castaways a chest of treasure. They used that, to buy a large tract of land in Iowa, to start some kind of commune, and also a newspaper.
That was interesting to me, because I live in Iowa.
