One-shot: Before Forever

Jul 20, 2009 19:02

Something spawned after some contemplative re-reading of the 8th volume. I just had to question some very crucial things, and hence, this one-shot.

Aaaannndddd THIS is why I <3 being on your f-list.

Once again you've captured a dark and almost dreary atmosphere, but interwoven such beauty and intensity that I, once more, am left in AWE of your talent.

The movement and pacing is beautifully done, and the angst is so beautifully rendered.

I often write Kaname as being very... angry at Juuri for 'living her impossible dream of becoming a human through her daughter... His mate, and placing her just beyond his reach, while at the same time making her dying wish that he 'take care' of Yuuki... Expecting him to starve in the mean time.

It is so nice to see this idea rendered so much more beautifully (maybe not anger, but, perhaps simply confusion, and antagonism towards Juuri and Haruka for making the decision to make Yuuki a human) than I am capable of doing it.

Beautiful, as always.

Thank you for reading!
After I re-read, I just didn't understand how Haruka and Juuri though about things. When Haruka said "I think this may be a good time for us to go," I can't help but snort and sneer. Like, right, it IS the time for you to go - hmm, I dunno, you have a daughter who can't even bite properly, and you leave her all alone in the world? What kind of parents are you two? Surely not responsible ones. >_>;;

I also perceive some kind of unfairness in Kaname's part, stuck with protecting a stupid little girl AND also looking after himself by trying to thwart Ridou's every move. I know they're family and all, but duh...Kaname's care is different from the care directly from Haruka and Juuri, don't you think?

So I came up with this one shot and another idea - if they really wanted a 'perfect' time to go, then why didn't Haruka and Juuri hang in there long enough until Yuuki was grown up and perhaps the two of them could have helped Kaname with Ridou. 3 purebloods against 1 is already an advantage.

Wow...just wow...speechless *o*

Never thought it that way you know, about how selfish was for Haruka & Juuri with trying to give Yuuki a secure, happy, future; and yet in the end she'll be back again as a pureblood more vulnerable than ever, and maybe unhappy :S

;__; brilliant piece!

Thank you for reading!

It really got me thinking, the whole idea of that 'different future'. If Yuuki had been placed in the care of a completely human family and far from any and all vampire related things, then she would have done well perhaps, as a human.

Kaien Cross was not the right person to raise her too, because he was a hunter, and still had ties to the vampire world.

It really does make you wonder what the riff-raff is for. Yuuki was raised as a human, and therefore her most crucial years were wasted to prepare her for human life. A very far cry from the needs of a pureblood child, especially in the fact that purebloods have to learn much much more in an early age to ready them for forever ( ... )

It's so true, about Yuuki's parents.

I don't blame Haruka as much (well, he sins by omission rather than by action, as I feel he lets Juri drag him along), but I always wonder WTF was Juri thinking.
Sure, the ten years of life with the chairman and all were nice, but with all counted in, what the parents did only made Yuuki's life worse. If they'd stayed alive and faced the council as Kaname finally got to do when he grew up, things would have been better for both their children. Instead, they messed Yuuki up and forced Kaname to shoulder it all up alone.

I love Haruka and Juri, but I always found that puzzling about them.

And now Yuuki has to deal with so much stuff she's unprepared for.

The only good side is having met Zero, which might not have gotten as close if he'd known all along that she was a pureblood. :X (Unless maybe if he'd met her when they were much younger and he didn't hate vampires yet.)

The only way this mess could have been any less bad would have been if Haruka and Juri had stayed alive and took care of their children instead.
But then, I wonder if Rido was maybe too strong for them. He did kill Haruka after all. (Still, all three of them together might have managed to do something, and then Haruka and Juri could have gone against the council.)

You're right here. But then again they ARE with the first vampire a.k.a Kaname, who's stronger and more wise than the two of them, so it's possible that the three of them can work out something. Maybe they could have enlisted Shizuka's help too, or something.
