I tend to think of warrior couple comparisons, like Aeryn/John, and my current obsession, but Mary/Matthew from Downton Abbey also totally fit the bill.
But even so, with the aforementioned, the K/L dynamic and baggage is so specific to the two of them that while I find other couples similar, it usually doesn't merit strong comparision. Does that make any sense? So with the others, I love them on their own terms, but not in a replace-my-pilots kind of way (b/c that's just not possible, yo.)
Oh goodness YES, Mary and Matthew do behave a lot like pilots might if they were forced to live in the Edwardian era, it's bizarre how much they have in common with pilots sometimes (cannot-love-each-other, daddy issues jealousy over the other one - though that is Mary's issue, not Matthew's, sleeping with someone you know is all wrong for you).
But yes, I don't think any other couple will ever completely remind me of them (even among the ones that do) because of the specificity you mentioned. It's more like looking for snatches of similarity than a big-picture resemblance, really.
OMG and don't forget the Dead Folks Issues with Lavinia! And traumatic rejections of proposals/confessions of lurve due to FEELINGS! And then coming back together as friends, and then being awesomely there for each other and still so piney and illict kissage and...
Wow. Yes, in some ways, they are probably the most similar of any couple I've seen.
Heh. Well, I've gone on and on about the parallels between Kara/Lee and Bill/Saul. I especially love the parallels between Kara and Saul because it would drive both of them nuts if they knew.
I've also joked about Evangelion's Shinji/Asuka being similar since they're pilots with daddy/mommy issues. ;)
I never shipped Bill/Saul but I can totally see the parallels, lol. And I think on some level Kara and Saul do see a bit of themselves in each other :)
And now your comment makes me feel slightly sad that I've all but given up reading manga :/
