Mar 20, 2012 19:40

Today, March 20th, marks exactly three years since the airdate of Daybreak, Part 2, which ended both BSG and pilots canon story by leaving Shipper Nation in absolute ruin, devastation and disappointment.

I was livid. And I still am sometimes. LOL. More than sadness I was just really really angry that they dropped the ball so damn badly. I have far too many thoughts on it actually, so instead I offer you links. What I thought about it and how I got over it (fic!):

That's just it, we all have thoughts, and thoughts, and more thoughts. AND FEELINGS.

I'm just glad I have people like y'all to share them with, and also for the many, many post-finale fixit fics and AUs, without which I'd never be able to think of pilots again without whimpering/full-on ugly crying. (and thank you so much for keeping this comm going even years later, you have no idea what a huge difference it makes to discover a haven full of people who share your feelings on the subject, when most fandoms are usually 'lol, that shit is over now')

Right? It's too much to be adequately covered by a few paragraphs! LOL.

Oh me too, bb. That's why I wanted us to have daily posts. I missed people talking about them. And everyone was slipping away, but I wasn't ready for it to be over. :)

yeah, I think I joined when the rewatch was winding down/over last year and genuinely loved it as just the DPP place :).

And this is my first experience of full-on shipper participation, I could not have asked for a better couple to start it with (even though they broke my heart in the end, I regret nothing) or a lovelier community to share that love (seriously, the awesomeness of this fandom is worthy of the awesomeness that is pilots, and that is truth).

I joined shipper nation at the beginning of Season 4.0, so I only had to go through one hellatus, but yes, I was around for the BSG finale three years ago.

I had absolutely convinced myself that our pilots were going to get a happy ending. After everything that they'd been through, surely they *deserved* to finally be able to be together once all of the obstacles were gone. So I was completely blindsided.

Thankfully I was off having a fangirl weekend with buckeye94, so we were able to comfort each other. I can't say I remember much of the weekend, other than lots of crying and trying to come to terms with the ending.

Shipper Nation came through with lots of great fic to help in the days and weeks following the finale and slowly I came to where I've been since then - a healthy state of denial. That scene in the field never happened. Pilots are epic and transcend any scenario you put them in (even if they don't fly there!). Which maybe explains why I like AU fic so much :)

I can't even imagine what it must have been like for people who were watching from Day 1 - over five years of your life, only to come to THAT. For what it's worth, you have all my sympathy, bb, and every right to be bitter over that ripoff. **hugs** and it's also good to hear from fans of that era, because heaven knows so many people (understandably) quit fandom, I don't think I've ever seen a show that so effectively managed to alienate its fans with the finale. (not even LOST).

Not only was it the end of a show that we loved, it was the end of everything we had wished and hoped for, for these two characters.

I know - I just was not ready to let them go, but to leave them to a fate like this.. and without fandom, I would be so bitter too. As it is, I'll never be able to let two fictional people get under my skin that way, ever again - it never happened before pilots, and it'll never happen after them because they simply ruined me for anyone else.
