Rusty muse warms up with inconsequential fic. Nothing to see here. Move along. ;) scifishipper November 19 2011, 19:50:32 UTC
She's not quite sure where they go from here. Lee's leaving to command Pegasus and their paths are diverging once again. He seems happy about it, although it's hard to tell because rank doesn't mean that much to him. She still thinks he resents the privileges of his father's name, just like he did at the Academy, but this is war and she might even agree that he's the best person for the job ( ... )

I've written a few more than a 1000 words this morning. I'm quite certain they boarder on crap, but I have written them down and saved them. :)

Lee doesn't know what to make of the thin metal figures in the bottom of Kara's locker, their gleaming brass finish worn from years of adoration. Her belief in the gods still seems odd to him, her passionate belief in something that he finds so irrational and difficult to embrace. He holds the two figures, though, his fingers tracing the softened metal edges, imagining her fingers doing the same. Maybe for the first time, he feels the peace that a symbol can give, feels connected to Kara in a way that she would have never allowed.

He's supposed to put everything in this box, plain and brown with her name scribbled on the front, the duty of the CAG no matter how hard it is. So he does, dropping the items in one by one, clothes he recognizes and papers he doesn't, left folded and private like she obviously intended. With her locker emptied, the box lid lies cast aside, the small figures once again resting in his palms.

Later that night he finds an empty locker, sits in the dark, fingers stroking the now-warmed metal, and he prays.

Lee praying for Kara always makes me cry. Cuz I love it so.

This is perfectly sweet and sad.

*sigh* I love to imagine the power that her life and presence had over him. If anyone could make him believe, it would be her. <3<3
