I use a fine toothed plastic comb after scrubbing my scalp.

Also, I was advised not to scrub everyday and that rinsing my hair with cool water as opposed to hot would be better. In my experience, that advice makes my hair seem a bit nicer then when I was doing a full WO every day after my run.

Yeah, I think it's hot water more than anything that is damaging. I take cooler showers because hot water dries out my skin. I figure if my skin is OK with it my hair should be, too.

I will try the comb first. Maybe I could just rinse and comb it every night and do the full scrub twice a week.

I do a water-only wash every day with the occasional ACV rinse here and there. It doesn't seem to cause any problems and I have short hair too.

I would probably do a very very dilute acid rinse every time I get my hair wet because my water is medium-hard. I was thinking a quart of filtered water with a tsp of lemon juice for a cold rinse.
