Indigo Black!

Apr 03, 2009 21:32

I just dyed my hair with indigo for the first time, you guys!

I had done henna a while ago, but I decided to apply henna again right before doing the indigo, because that's what's recommended, I guess? (Indigo is a plant-based hair dye which on top of henna will dye your hair black. Without henna it will dye your hair... gross. Hehe.) Anyway, I left ( Read more... )

It did stain the top of my forehead a bit, and my ears a lot, but luckily those are all areas I can easily cover with my haircut. It's also a lot messier than henna, I should have mentioned that! But the results are totally worth it! My nails are also really gross from rinsing.... all of these things are reasons I did this on a Friday night, hehe. I'll keep you updated how long the stains last!

Stain update! Pretty much all stains on my face and ears were mostly gone the next day, except for very faint gray ones by my hair line, but they were tiny and not noticeable at all. My fingernails are still a little bit stained. I washed my hair yesterday (bs/wv), and today any sebum I scratch off my head is still blue. So, touching my hair won't stain my fingers, but touching (scratching) my scalp does. Kinda like with the brown/orange stuff with henna. =)

Hope that helps!

Also, my hair is also thin in the front, I don't know why... that's why I have the side part, haha! The nice thing is that the blue stuff cleaned away nicely from the front, but my boyfriend said my scalp was blue in the back under the hair that is thicker. So that wasn't so bad. =)

Ha, I guess I could, couldn't I? I don't even know why I'm not in that community, since I've been doing henna for years! Thanks for pointing me in that direction! =D

I actually use almond oil that I pick up from my local Indian grocery store as a moisturizer - my skin is quite dry. It works well as a conditioner too, and isn't half as pungent as coconut oil, which is what I used previously.

From where do you like to purchase henna and indigo, and what form (powder, liquid) do you buy it in? I'd prefer to dye my hair black with natural dyes. My skin won't take the irritation of chemicals.

Ooh, good to know about the almond oil! =)

I just get cheap henna at the Indian market, but I got the indigo from http://www.hennaforhair.com/ ... I bought 200 grams, and 100g was enough to do my hair. 200g came to 20 bucks including shipping, so not bad at all! =)

What cute pictures! I also love hennaforhair's henna and indigo (which I mix to get a dark brown color). The texture is much better than anything else I've tried - much less mess, just a nice smooth cream.
