Hi everyone. I've recently been introduced to the shampoo-free method and I tried it for the first time today, using 1 Tbsp of BS to 1 cup of water, followed by the ACV rinse (1 tbsp to 1 cup ( Read more... )

Let your hair detox and see what it does. My hair is naturally on the borderline between wavy and curly, and the no poo method actually seems to straighten my hair. Also, once it's a little healthier it won't frizz so much (mine is damn near perfect now) and that might help you accept and love your hair as-is.

Hope that helps!

I think I will try to let it "detox" without straightening for awhile. How long generally does the detox process last? A week?

Depends on the person. I was already using natural shampoos and conditioners, and I only used those 2-3 times a week right at the end. My detox period was about a week. There are people on this list who had detox periods of up to a month. I think it depends on the condition of your hair and scalp before you begin.

So what's your reason for going no-poo? If it's because you want healthy hair, then blowdrying and straightening it is totally going to undo any good you are doing. If you're wanting to help your scalp on the other hand, then no-poo can be all good.

I'm not really sure. I guess my main goal is to have healthier hair, but I know that it's going to be counteracted at least somewhat by the heat damage. After trying it today, however, I did notice a softer, shiner feel even after blowdrying and straightening.

I guess part of it is also to avoid the use of so many chemicals in my hair, too.
