Aw, Red ;_; I thought at first he was protecting himself, keeping everyone at arms length so it wouldn't be as painful to lose friends in the war, but it sounds like he's actually trying to protect every one else, so they won't be as devastated if he gets killed? Good for First Aid for noticing how Red Alert's actions are speaking much louder than his words as to how much he really cares about the other Autobots. I hope he doesn't take Smokescreen's advice...

Yep, considering Red Alert's position he can't really afford close bonds since they can be used against him if the Decepticons figured them out, that and as one of the few officers from Optimus' crew he'd be even more valuable captured as a blow to the autobots and an information fountain. (Of course this is mostly going off of what I would do in a time of war, and one of my high priorities would be to go for the security of an enemy base for easier siege tactics or just to cause slowly dwindling peak conditions if my enemy was too busy trying to fix the security gaps to actually rest without worry of being killed in the night.)

That and well, considering Red pretty much watches and knows their lives from the security cameras and such he's probably already attached in his own way, so he can only really keep them from caring and hurting themselves when (to his thinking) he is taken out by the cons. And First Aid better not listen to Smokescreen or I'd be :/ at him myself.
